So, at a guess, the standard GS Adv keeps the 1150's gearing from 1 to 5
and has the 1100's 5th gear as 6th.

I find the 1150GS 1st gear too tall for some situations. Much clutch
slipping required to keep the revs up to a point where the fuel injection
performs properly. I'd certainly choose the lower 1st gear if it was an
    option.

Presumably the reason for such short flights is to ferry you over the
    minefields or somesuch.

  3. You're looking at about 7k privately, I think. Certainly not less.

    Not necessarily, it doesn't.

When is it; and has anyone got a camcorder?

22000 miles? That's a 5 year old sports bike that is.

Are you *really* sure the TS250 would make a good support vehicle.
    Next year sometime and me.

  7. I know. Bloody silly, really, considering a BMW GS is a sports bike too.
    Honest.

I might know someone looking to pick one up. Keep in touch if you need
    to sell.

I'm waiting for one of my customers to tell me that they need to see
me in Iraq. I don't really want to go, but at the same time I am kind
    of curious...

I know a couple of guys doing sysadmin stuff at a US compound[1] near
Baghdad. They get $150K pa[2] tax free to play solitaire for 10 hours
a day. They have a gym, cinema, grocery store, fishing lake, internet
cafe and nice accomodation. They have no intention to ever leave the
compound, they only iraq they saw was on the 15min ride from the
    airport.

Er... they don't work for me, do they?
I know the camp they're at. That's one of the best ones.
Some of them are hilarious in their opulence, apparently.
They could well work for me. I've got a couple of careers advisors at
    U.S. universities feeding me resumes.

Right the definitive answer (sort of). Travelling home last night in top
    gear i.e. 6th; 3000 rpm = 55mph so by a rough calculation this would be 18.3
mph / 1000 rpm. Obviously this does not allow for instrumentation errors.

I suspect the Adventure has slightly lowered gearing - this may have been
achieved by dicking about with the final drive ratio. I'll have a rummage
and see if I can find a reference.

I try and get evening flights out nowadays, seems to make the time pass
quicker as the body naturally switches off.
