TOG, I've been offered a 5000 mile W reg Ducati 900ss with new belts 3k ago
needing new tyres. It's red and I can have it for what the guy was offered
for it as a trade in; 2500ukp

    Good price?

    Indeed.

W reg means it'll be an injected one. For Gawd's sake check the service
history, but that is indeed a helluva good price.

Just saying to you the other day that I'd always fancied a Ducati wasn't
    I. This guy does it by the book, it's been dealer serviced from new.

    Hmmmmmmm!

They aren't as fast nor as attractive as a 916, or any of the 4
cylinder competetion. Dated engine in a simple but effective chassis
wearing new clothes. Why would anyone want to buy an SS when there's
the 916, or if they wanted a sports tourer there's the ST2/4? That's my
    guess.

That's not to say they aren't a good bike, I'd have one purely because
I like the looks and handling, even if they do perform like an
    asthmatic Firestorm.

Well yes, it looks like an uprated pantah 600 engine basically doesn't it?
Still 90 italian stallions is plenty for me, and I bet they handle
    beautifully.

How much is a pair of decent tyres going top cost me?

****, that's cheaper than I'd have expected in the UK. Cost me Eu330
over here, which I thought was quite good. I'm talking about fitted to
the bike prices, mind, where I suspect yours are just for the tyres,
    right?

All depends where you go. I can get them fitted, at normal retail,
round here or in London for about the price I quoted. Most places will
fit free of charge to loose wheels, but charge if they have to remove
the wheels or if they are fitting tyres sourced elsewhere.

Of course, I don't pay anywhere near that much, being in the trade ;-)

I was tending to forget that London has such places - I used to go to
one somewhere near Tottenham, IIRC, when I worked down there. There
was also a decent tyre place in Cambridge, but I've never heard of
    such a place down here.
