I don't disagree, but if the above is true, why are dealers still asking
what seem to me to be mental prices for used supersports bikes?

Are they being bargained down to sensible prices or are they just not
    selling anything?[/QUOTE]

If they are franchised dealers then holding a small stock of stupidly
priced used bikes might make punters think, "I'll buy a new one then". The
available deals on new sales and the huge volume of pre-reg bikes suggests
that the only way to make money at the moment is to meet the volume bonuses
    from desperate manufacturers.

  2. Some can afford to wait. Some can bargain down - and will. What you and
Bear are not considering is what the dealers paid for the bikes in the
first place - and certainly in the case of my local dealer, the answer
    is "not a lot".

So yeah, some prices seem silly. If the dealer sells at Silly Pounds,
he's laughing. If someone wants to haggle, the room is there. If he sits
on the bike for long enough, though, someone will pay Silly Pounds, and
    the wait is worthwhile.

Isn't servicing where it's all at now, and accessories?

as others have said, they're trying it on. I looked at buying a new
bike in the summer, with the 'blade as a trade-in. No-one offered me
anything near to what I thought it might be worth, and some dealers
even refused to take a trade-in at all.

All the more reason to try to skew the market so that the punters buy new.
Most people buying a new (or pre-reg) bike will get it serviced by a
franchised dealer thinking that it is necessary to keep the warranty sweet.

  7. Better margins! And the older bikes get (if people are hanging onto them
longer), the more servicing and bits they need.
