Having asked one who was there - the poles who were already commissioned
officers in the Polish airforce before arriving in the UK at the beginning
of WW2 were granted equivalent courtesy rank in the RAF. Those who
volunteered and trained in the UK became sergeant pilots because of the
nationality issue. This means that by the end of the war most remaining
    active Polish pilots were NCOs.
Some remained in service after the war and some of these were later
commissioned after having become naturalised British citizens. Some of the
sergeant pilots became instructors, often in
basic training roles including the Air Experience flights for ATC cadets. My
first flight in a Chipmunk at Filton in the late 1950s was with one of
    these.

"A factoid is a questionable or spurious—unverified, incorrect, or
fabricated—statement presented as a fact, but with no veracity."

    Uh-huh

Or at least make sure that battery for your mini-gun is charged.

Aha! Lurker flushed from the undergrowf!

That's great, Weggie. I've just had a response from the BBC,
disclaiming all responsibility for the caption and laying it at the
feet of the supplying agency. I've copied your info to them, with a
request to feed it back to said agency, in order that future captioning
    may be more accurate.

    Good work, old boy.

    Indeed! whew.

A Greek Airforce in 1948. That takes the biscuit.

crn1, the factoid factory. Will fac-up all available threads with even
more wildly inaccurate half-truths than the rest of us are capable of
    inventing.
#That's the way we like it, uh huh, uh huh.

They were supposedly raped so badly by the Germans they blamed the recent
collapse on WWII. Could afford an airforce though. Sheesh it's the size of
    Scotland without the oil.
