Sorry I've lost track of my previous post "Valuation Required" remember it?

    Molly you said about £1400
    TOG you said about £1600

Quite agree with both of you, but why are dealers offering me £2000 for it
against a £3000 bike? Thought dealers always offered naff all.

Apologies for the delayed response to your posts, I was ill.

Maybe the £3k bike is only worth £2k and they're having problems
shifting it? - if they know they can easily shift on your old bike at a
profit then it's worth them doing.

Ah good point, the offers were against more "obscure" (for want of a better
word) types of bike... I'll see what they offer against something a little
    more main steam.

Don't really want it to go to a dealer coz its a lovely bike, took me ages
to find one as good as this, I want it to go to a good home....think I'm
going soft in my old age.

    That's it, sort of.

The prices quoted for each bike are not the important figure - is the new
bike worth a £1000 more than yours? That's the only question you need to
    consider.

Dealers hope that the feel good factor generated by a high trade in price
makes you ignore the inflated asking price. Works very well in a lot of
    cases.

  5. As SteveH says, the bike they're selling isn't worth 3k.

I will definatly keep that in mind
Makes you think that all the care you have taken with your current bike is
    being rewarded.

I would always trust TOG's valuations. Mine was based on my son's
which is the same year and cot a grand.
    What was the matter?

I have a load of metalwork in my back, every now and then it goes weird and
I get shed loads of pain (a trip in an ambulance to casualty for morphine)
"trip" being the operative word :) also loose the ability to move for about
    a week or so.

Still, on the bright side, new metalwork should be put in around Christmas.

    Molly says...
I don't think that will help, it's his back not his bowels giving him
    trouble

Hence the search for a more upright, lighter bike, I have found that I can
get around better with a bike than the car, in the sense that I can park
closer to where I'm going thus cutting down the walk.

Also wanna get something that will look ok with a large top box so I can
stuff all my gear in it, save carrying it around.

Best thing I ever done learning to ride a bike!
