I've been offered an old GT380 as seen here:

    http://www.jon.harris.clara.net/gt380_1.jpg (300k ish)
    http://www.jon.harris.clara.net/gt380_2.jpg (400k ish)

It's got 19k on it (verifiable) with new tyres, C&S and looks to my
untrained eye pretty clean if not mint.

So any ideas as to what a fair price would be?

Only mildly interested as i get the distinct feeling that i would get it out
once in a blue moon, scare myself shitless with the handling and put it
away, assuming it hadn't seized the centre pot on the return journey.

If it's your thang, let me know (mind the munged addie) and i'll put you
guys together. That is unless I get tempted to raid the piggy bank...

    Cheers,

    Jon H.

  2. That is very, very nice and original. It's also a very early GT (drum
    brake).

In that condition, assuming it's a decent runner, you're looking at a
grand, maybe more. Seat needs a bit of attention, but really, I haven't
seen a drum-brake GT in that sort of unrestored condition for years.

The bad news. It'll be crap to ride. Lovely smooth engine, zero ground
clearance, and that useless drum brake.

That one is a GT to restore and keep. If you want one to ride, look for
    a disc-braker.

Blimey, that *is* a nice one.
Well, it's probably worth making a low offer as these aren't that
    sought after.

He's looking for £600, which doesn't sound unreasonable given Neil's
valuation. Need to know what I'm getting into though and if it was at the
beginning of the summer I'd have probably bitten his hand off, scared myself
silly, and flogged it again by now...

  8. I'd buy it at that price. Seriously.

The engines are fundamentally reliable, and share a lot of common parts
    with the GT250. It's basically a 250-and-a-half. I *think* pistons,
rings and rods are all the same.

Anyway, it's a very solid lump. Rubber-mounted and super-smooth. Torquey
and surprisingly economical for a two-stroke because top gear is tall.

The only downer is that drum front brake, but for 600 quid - rip his arm
    off.

  9. I can't figure this out. Roadtests of the time reckoned it was quite
easy on fuel, and the two I've owned were....

I was referring to the apparent gap above the barrels from the
excellent camouflage that the polished sides of the ram-aqua system
    provide.
