    All being well, I take delivery of a '97 MK I 1.8 MX5 tomorrow.

Just the weather for it eh? Well, actually, if we do get the odd dry but
cold day before next spring it might very well be just that.

I suspect I'll decide it's a bit too cramped to go off with my mate to
watch the R.A.C. later this month. In any case, this year it should be
his turn to do the honours in his son's Imprezza.

No. The one in question has spent most of its time lately on a drive
waiting for the impecunious owner to gather the cash necessary to
replace some major components required for an MoT.

Which reminds me that I must finalise arrangements for the R.A.C. this
year. The Olivers Mount tarmac stages might be fun for just a day out as
I'm not sure we fancy a kip in the car to see the Sunday fun in
    Scotland.

Well done that man. Your first job should be to check the drain holes
are clear, both in the sills & at each end of the parcel shelf by the
seatbelt mounts. Have a look just over halfway down
    http://ox.mx5oc.co.uk/hints_tips.htm

Is it a genuine MX5 or a Eunos?
It's a British sportscar - you're meant to drive it in the rain with
    the hood down.

Just returned from a 40 mile bimble round a couple of my favourite
    roads.

I think my main problem may be keeping to the restricted mileage I have
    told Saga.

I need to get used to driving a petrol car that wants to be revved
again. Don't want to really red line it until I have changed the oil to
a something known and trusted though.

Great fun. Slightly more nervous on fast ripply sweepers than I
expected. Perhaps needs the suspension tweaked. In some ways having four
matching tyres with plenty of tread is good, but they are P6000s :-(

    Anyone want some ?

Looks as if it has had a quick flash over on the nether regions, but
they seem sound. Really could do with a new hood, but someone at work
knows where to get a pikey replacement and will help do it. TBF a new
rear window came as part of the deal, along with a full ticket. In any
case it already has frankenstein bolts so I may look round for a hard
    top.

It goes and feels better than a 10 year old mass produced car with
108000 on the clock has any right to.

Nice. I see from up there in the thread that it's a 97, which must
have been the last of the Mk 1 shape, as me and the ex got a new shape
one in 98. Which was wonderful.
It's japanese. If there's oil in it, it'll be fine.
I doubt it. And I doubt it's tweakable anyway. They are just lively
and involving cars. Make sure the tyre pressures are good, and just
    hang on.

They work fine on my Passat, wet or dry.

Not wearing that quickly on the fronts either, which is good given how much
    torque it has.

TBF, they haven't given me any moments yet, but it's early days. I found
the same comments as Jim did on the MX5 forum, but it they may be ill
    founded.

I have always gone for Goodyear NCT when a change of tyre has been
needed on anything other than a runabout. They worked really well on the
Manta, even the Vectra, and now I have them all round on the Octavia I
    remember why I rate them.

Can't remember what I had on the Alfa 75, but certainly not NCTs. TBF,
this may or may not have contributed to the 'off' I had in it. Though
that was more down to shit lights for a road that didn't agree with my
mate's map, no ABS and possibly the wrong front pad material, and
definitely a thick layer of Welsh farmer's mud.

    Oh... :-S

    That's a shame. :-(

Maybe if they'd made a bike fitment P6000, he might not have lobbed his B12
    mid wheelie? ;-)

The lad thinks the pop-up lights are just so coooool.
They do have a reputation as pretty unburstable, but I will be happier
when I have changed it. My bother in law has had Mazdas for years.
Currently a 5 IIRC. He is a chartered accountant, so that may or may not
    be a recommendation.

According to the owners club, and from what Timo was saying, the rear
suspension can sometimes be improved by careful setting up by SWK. I
ought really to check the pressures I suppose. Also, following the GFR
    experience, the coolant level.

The 'if in doubt flat out' advice is spot on though. I haven't driven a
car with so much feedback other than the kart I had a go in a couple of
    weeks ago.

Probably that as well. I freely admitted to the RAC man who came to
recover it that it was a basic lack of car control, in response to his
cheery , "had an off lads?" We were following the (original) RAC rally.

In any case, I see that NCTs are considered to be not the tyre they
were, having gone 'eco'. So, as often is the case, it may all be in the
    mind.
