Paging those US West Coast folk again.

  1. Portland, OR.

Seems their are no direct flights from the UK. Grrrr.

    Easiest route suggestions please.

Googling suggests LHR - AMS - PDX, or various others inc. LHR - Houston /
Denver / Newark / Washington / Minneapolis - PDX being some of the choices.

After recommendations from those who've actually done it please.

Well, I've not done it, but I was looking for other flights on kayak.co.uk
(as recommended by Blaney) so I put your request in...

They list using Frankfurt as a hub. LHR-FRA-PDX with 1 hour in FRA. 13.5
hour flight which is shorter than many of the other options.

Beats using a shonky internal US flight, no?

If it were me, I'd do Seattle & hire a car to get to Portland. It's
only around 150 miles, which would probably take less time than a
    change of flight.

I did Continental from Birmingham via Newark.
No complaints but I'm easily pleased.

  8. Ta, an "easily pleased" is a starting point.

  9. Don't try to fly back from Seattle. Or at lest not on BA and
    *certainly* not on standby tickets..

We tried that when Cheryl was still working for Galileo and she got
staff-discount tickets (ie 10% of cost).

We eventually ended up taking UA to Chicago and getting the BA flight
    back from there.

  11. You probably were not on standby tickets.. And this was a good few
years ago (98? 97? Somewhere around then). Seattle was the BA hub for
the whole Pacific NorthWest and all their flights were crammed to the
    rafters.

  12. I'm almost sure I've flown direct to Portland. Would have been either
with British or American cause the company I worked for only used them. I
was on my way to Beaverton - what a shite place. Rained the whole time I
was there and there wasn't a pub to be found. Americans are strange.
