What he wants now and what he wants in 6 days/weeks/months
will be different anyway, and once you've sorted out one little
problem for him, he'll be back for more if you don't charge!

All my sites work on a very basic CMS which allows them to
add/edit/delete pages as well as images and the like. This is
all done online so no software to learn or install - if they can
use Word then they're pretty much there. It means I'm not
on the end of the phone if they want to change something
simple and you can charge them more for the licencing
    fees!

    Chris Cowley wote:
If you ca'nt see the humour in that I call "bullshit" on your claims of
ever having worked as a contractor, especially anywhere IT-related. In
fact I see no compelling evidence that you have any worthwhile or
relevant knowledge and experience, especially that if you *had* been
working in software for 17+ years you would not be riding such a POS as
you so proudly list in your sig.
You can blether on with your fake claims of experience and
professionalism, but they would be of questionable value here even if
they were true. Standard contracts are just not relevant in this case -
quite apart from the fact that you do not seem to have grasped the
basics of spelling and grammer, you're inability to realise that the OP
is not a professional asking for advice on negotiating a contract, but
a hobbyist touting for some informal cash work on the side, exposes
your claims as vacuous and therefore your opinions as worthless. I
    stand by my original advice.

Not as wrong as your punctuation. Clearly you're an illiterate idiot,
    as well as a buffoon.

Clearly not on both counts. You *still* haven't found the spelling and
grammar check, but nice of you to bite, you show yourself up; people
living in cloches should'nt throw stones at windmills, and what a shame
you descended into childishly trying to swap insults. Stupid boy.

  7. Indeed, and it's not just the cost of pencils for sticking up the nose -
the computer itself must be amortised in terms of time spent on working
    on the task.

These things don't grow on trees, and if the OP's customer had the
skills and equipment to do it himself, he'd bloody well do it himself.

Strikes me there's often an under-appreciation of just how much time and
effort goes into a half-decent webshite - yer average JoeBlow small
business owner looks at a few pages and thinks that couldn't have been
all that hard to do, hence the expectation of paying peanuts.
Not helped, of course, by the site being an insubstantial thing. If
webpages had a solidity that could be held in the hand, some of the
cheapskate cunts out there might have more of a clue.

It's true, I admit it. I only pretend to be a software developer in
order to appear exciting and impress girls.

As the HTML doesn't validate, and isn't even closed at the end, as well as
plenty of other mistakes .. I'd recommend going on about "minimum wage"
    level per hour.

Oscommerce http://www.oscommerce.org/ is your friend for that kind of stuff.

Getting back on topic, as you said earlier "This is all in my own time /
hobby / fun." You've already created the site, it looks okay to me, but
    I like K.I.S.S.

Personally I'd ask for a crate of your favourite beverage/chocolate/bit
of bike or whatever, unless you really could do with the cash, then make
it around £100. That seems high enough to signal that if he wants
something professional it's going to stop being fun for you but small
enough to *keep* it fun but make you both happy.

  11. Can I suggest you insert a line like

    <meta name="Keywords" content="Sandy Scooters, Sandy, scooters, Bedford,
Lambretta, Vespa, Maicoletta, Luton, Dunstable, Tin Soldiers">

All are keywords that a search engine spider will search for.

Otherwise as far as your sites are concerned they transmit the information
required. They are clear and uncomplicated.

You get a very good 'Well Done' from me.

  12. Forgot to mention that the search engine will then include your site in the
list of found sites when it does its search. Thats how some seemingly
totally innocent searches also bring up links to porn sites.

Yeah but you didn't. Blame Google Mail.
Thanks, here's one back: Try to sound less of a smug twat if you want
to be seen as anything other than a prissy old woman.

Unless bland comments on ASCII formatting have somehow become a rich
comedy vein in my absence I don't really see how I'm to blame.
