I'm considering looking for work in quarrying, on the basis that what I'm
doing now is very reliant on the construction trade. I'd be working in the
estates side of things, so it wouldn't be totally relying on selling huge
lumps of rock to the construction trade, although there's clearly a strong
link. The only other option is working for the public sector, and I'm not
sure whether a) that's what I'm really after or b) whether they'll be paring
things back as tax take drops.

What's the reckoning? Are they likely to be particularly crippled by the
    looming economic badness?

I'm not sure anything contruction-related is a particularly sensible
    move right now.

Although it's probably a good thing to start training in for a 16 yr
old doing apprenticeships, as by the time they're out the other side
it'll probably be boom time again.

I'm really not sure waht to expect in the next couple of years IT
wise, other than more fucking offshoring.

    I suggest you re-train as a bailiff.
