    OK, FOAK that is UKRM.

    Any recommendations for my problem?
Im looking for a (free) script or programme that will allow someone to
administer / edit a website once i have built it for them. This will need to
be some form of online tool and not FTP / webediting programme, i want
something that just about any numpty can use. Its basically for uploading
and downloading some photos of stuff for sale etc, nothing fancy and for
someone with minimal (or more likely none) html knowledge.

Thanks if anyone can help :)

Or you could just use one of many free on-line gallery website

    such as www.pbase.com

Does he need to upload anything other than photos?

You could learn PHP (or find some ready-made php scripts for
uploading/resizing photos etc) and set him up quite simply.

If you need to allow him the ability to add captions/info to each picture
then use MySQL or write PHP scripts to write/read text files.

    Simple stuff really.

Midway twixed mambo and gallery stuff is ezContents[1]. TBH it requires
*effort* to make it look good, but may be good enough for DP. Not quite
a recommendation, just a suggestion IYSWIM.

Ohhh now that looks *very* promising.
At first probably not, however I'd like to allow him the option (and he
wants the option) to make other changes but only simple ones hence the need
    for simplicity.
Ooh no sir, that's beyond my capabilities and time committments to be
honest, and i never could get to grips with mysql.
static html and bits of hacked perl or javascript is my limit and im quite
    happy to admit such.
Sorry, Im all out of milkshake :)

Mambo might be overkill for your needs.

Check out http://www.opensourcecms.com/ for links to other open source CMS
    resources.
    Heh.

If you can manage Perl and Javascript then PHP/MySQL won't stress you too
    much.

Do you have PHP & MySQL enabled where the site will be hosted?
I could give you some pointers. It's just half a dozen small scripts.

    Will do.

    SNIP MORE
Hmm, it will do, and my other sites all have it enabled so i could use them
to play with first of all i guess?

This is what I do - along with the very nice rich text editor
functionality that is built into IE, you can also create pages
for the site and stick them in the MySQL database too.

PHP has loads of functions for resizing images to generate
thumbnails for galleries and the like.

    Here's one of mine: http://www.bike-astur.com/
