    on a *Friday*? Ye gods.

Parent's evenings are - IME - largely a waste of time in any case.

  6. Heh. One of the memorable quotes from that film, and which was cut from
    the sanitised for-TV version.

The rocking-chair bonk was toned down as well.

'Your son hasn't done any work.'

"Well, isn't it your job to see that he does?"

A car-sized turbo, no. But I imagine that a loco-sized turbo might be
    /rather/ bigger...

apparently that's not considered part of a teacher's remit these
    days...

Nah - trains only have mini-sized engines really[1]. They just use loud
    exhausts.

[1] You should see the clutch though.

    Tell me about it.

And there was a message on the answering machine the other day to say
that he refuses to get his hair cut (he's got The Doctor's curly hair
and it grows, naturally, into a spectacular Afro), and if he doesn't, he
    needn't bother coming into school.

The conversation between father and son went something like this:

"Get it cut. You think I haven't been here before? I was at school in
the early 1970s. I know about schools and hair, and mine was longer than
    yours is now."

'So if you didn't get yours cut, why should I?'

"I did get it cut. That's the bloody point. It's not a big issue. Get
yours cut tomorrow. You think you're being a rebel? You're not - you're
    just being a ****."

so it's fair to say that the problem is in the "lack of backbone"
    department?

IME I'd disagree, I always get a lot of ammunition out of them that I
can use to sap my childrens self-confidence and independence for months.

And rightly so. Parents need to take personal responsibility for the
education and socialisation of their offspring.

If, ****, I had meant "cool down", then I would, ****, have said so.[/QUOTE]

what the **** does "warm down" mean, then, and how does it differ from
    "cool down".
