    If I have:

A LAN that's only allowed to connect to the internet through a proxy
    (not a transparent one)

An application that needs to connect to the internet, but doesn't know
    about proxy servers.

Can I build a router with a couple of NICs out of eg a Linux box that
connects to the proxy with one NIC and is part of a LAN on the other,
such that the application can connect to the outside world?

Any recommended piece of software to do it?

Linux. Set up the routing tables as required. I'm on IRC if you want.
