When it's pissing down and it looks like it's not going to stop, the idea is
to get as far as possible in shortest time, or get off the bike and get a
hotel. I was trying to do both, so bravery never entered into the equation.
    Stupidity, on the other hand.

I have one of these as an alternative to the Bagster type, and noticed
that a watch left in it was affected, probably by the magnets.

Bagster strapped panniers flew away at 150mph on my 'ace. Those things
    should be autobahn-safe, f*ck.

All the panniers I've owned have the instruction that one strap goes
under the pillion seat and 2 over, which would make flying off
impossible. Are people seriously just laying the straps over the seat
and expecting panniers to stay put?

Ummm...yes, that's what I did, but by mistake and because I left in a
hurry with a ferry to catch. I've never done it before or since, and
    wouldn't recommend it.

Plus, I'm not taking the seat off the Sprint ST just to secure
panniers. A couple of bungees does the trick.

Anyway, what instructions?! I bought these ones from TOG!

    Ken did.

He also didn't put the strap for his tankbag under the seat. Cue much
hilarity, swerving, and standing around on the hard shoulder looking for
    pants.

    Wasn't that the tailpack?

I remember that with Ken, but let's be honest, unless it's a case of
copying plastic dinosaurs he's a bit of a mong-tard when it comes to
    being practical.

Er, yeah. The strap-under-the-seat bit should've been a giveaway that
tankbag wasn't quite the word I was looking for.

Bagsters of mine have two straps and not the third you mention. They
offer a couple of strings in each pannier that should be tied to
footpegs, but that didn't work at those speeds.

Heh, it's worrying when you think you've fucked up a decent watch but
mine recovered straight away when I did it.

I was quite surprised that any decent watch would be fucked up by it.
IIRC you wear a TAG, but I assumed all mechanical watches at that kind
    of level would be non-magnetic.

    ISTBC obviously.

I was stunned when I took my watch out of my tankbag and found it was
several hours out. You're right when you assume it was a TAG but I
suppose the theory is that they're a stainless case and waterproof to
-200m so the guts can simply be decent quality carbon steel.
Consider it done. I doubt if it would have happened to a Rolex.

Why not? Who's got a few grands worth of Rolex we can magnetise and
