On my laptop I am running Mapsource 6.9.1 with the City Navigator 8
maps. I plotted a route on this and tranferred it to my Streetpilot
    2610. All seems fine.

However when I "activate" the route on the Streetpilot, it displays the
message "This route does not match the available maps!". The Streetpilot
seems to have corresponding maps ("City navigator europe v8"). I am
given the option of recalculating the route or using it as it stands -
in the latter case, it says the route "will not follow the roads
    precisely".

Is this user error (maybe doing something in mapsource that is not
    compatible)?

I suspect you do not have all of the map "tiles" along the route in the
    2610's memory.

How big is the CF memory card in the 2610?

It will need to be 2GB to hold all of CNv8

If you have a smaller card then you will need to selectively load tiles
along/near the route. This takes ages via the 2610 - invest in a USB card
    reader.

For later updates (there have been 3) you won't get all of the Europe data
on a 2GB CF card. It hasn't been a problem for me as I don't have plans to
go to Scandinavia so just leave that bit out.

I've had this before and IIRC what I did was accidentally transferring
the "uncalculated" route rather than putting in the waypoints and hit
    recalculate before transferring the route.

Alternatively I'd just transfer the maps with the route...
