    And it was a snotter.

Not a single panel matched, the front nosecone was crazed, the leather
cracked and baggy, the wood de-laminating and the wheels were furry. To
top it all, it was running on a brand new set of 'Runway' tyres.

Reserve was £1200, so my £800 was no good...

I'm sure Sydney would come to Fraser if he asked him nicely and offered
    to pay expenses.

an Mx-5 is gayer than cum on a mustache.

  8. More MX-5s being broken into by chavs with stanley knives? I reckon it
is worth the extra insurance. They are a great car.

That isn't bad, as you won't be getting NCD off it. When I wanted to
insure a second car, in leafy rural Bedfordshire without the benefit of
NCD, the best quote I got was well over £500 - my then car insurer was
Norwich Union (as was) with whom I'd been covered for something like
five years - and they wanted over £700! This was for a BX 17TGD, the
non-turbo diesel and one of the slowest cars I've ever driven.
Yebbut you know as well as I do that for one, "13 years NCB" doesn't
exist. The best you can do, generally, is four years and that puts you
on 60%. Yes, you can honestly state you haven't had a claim for the
five years they ask you about and you can scrawl in green ink along the
bottom of the form that, actually, your claim-free period in years is
greater than the average insurance droid's IQ, but it won't get you any
    money off your premium.

Secondly - unless they've changed the rules dramatically, or you have a
personal arrangement with your InsCo - you aren't going to score 60%
off your gross premium for a second, or in your case, third car. IME
you might get an introductory discount of 30%, but you've got to ask
for it and generally won't get it. So you're looking at a new policy
with no NCD and, TBH, £382 isn't bad for a grey import.
How many other cars did you have insured then? Fair enough, you might
have two policies running, each with their own NCD, but you must have
had to bite the bullet somewhere along the line. Further, the Spider
was not a grey, was it? Greys always cost more to insure, for little
reason other than the InsCos can.

Looking at the adverts on telly, you might be better off looking at one
of the Admiral products as they do a family cover of some sort, with
both spouses on one policy, paying one premium, but each with their own
NCD and they do multi-car as well. There's always the little
specialist insurers/brokers too, the likes of Adrian Flux and
Cloverleaf, who will haggle more than the big companies who only employ
    script-following droids.

That's the thing, I am - somehow, and don't ask me how this happened,
I've managed to acquire 2 lots of 13 years documented - I'm using one on
the 75 and the other was being used on the Cinquecento - which, as I
say, was circa £190 FC with all mods. declared.

Funny thing is that the premium only dropped by a tenner if I put a
    Eunos down as 'garaged'.
    See above.
K has her NCD on the 156, I had my own put on the 156, but then had an
insurer match it for the Cinqeucento, and they issued me with another
    proof of NCD.

The Spider was a LHD import from the USA, and never sold in the UK.

To be honest, even putting it as an MX5 doesn't make that much
    difference - maybe 40 quid a year.
Tried Admiral's multi-car - they wanted nearly 800 quid a year for the
75 and a Eunos.... will try some brokers today, but the recommended
broker by the MX5 Nutz forum, who supposedly 'specialise' in getting
insurance on he Eunos quoted £349 TPF&T and told me it was an amazing
deal - despite me getting largely the same quote from the same insurer
    for FC cover.

One of my friends was telling a story last night about a single
"wealthy" guy who couldn't get a mortgage because of the info passed on
from Tesco's clubcard. He'd been having lot's of parties, as one should
do when single, which meant purchasing lots of booze. This was done at
Tesco and had been recorded on his clubcard. This information was passed
on to the mortgage company who decided he was a bad risk because he was
likely to die young from cirrhosis of the liver. I just said he'd have
been okay if he'd been wearing a tin foil hat ;-).

Sounds like total bollocks, given that it's an insurable risk and the
mortgage provider would be highly unlikely to lose its shirt.

Sounds like complete and utter total bollocks, given that Tesco will
guard their Clubcard data like the crown jewels, Data Protection Act
    notwithstanding.

Unless it was a Tesco mortgage he was applying for... (and even then, I'm
    immensely sceptical)

You think Tesco can't and won't ever share data with third-parties under
a commercial NDA? That database will one day be one of their biggest
    revenue streams.

As others have said - total bollocks. I worked on Tesco's clubcard
data analysis systems, albeit some years ago, and this sort of use
wasn't even dreamed of - they were having enough trouble trying to get
useable data for themselves, on a population basis, without even
thinking of reporting on individual customers.

Which broker was that? I haven't had much luck with the ones recommended
there, but that's most likely because you and me don't fit the average
    MX5Nutzer's demographic.

    Sky Insurance.

Seems the answer, partially anyway, is to buy a late UK spec. Mk1 with
airbags and factory immobiliser - that instantly knocks 60-70 quid off
the quote for a similar Eunos.

Rings a vague bell, I think they weren't able to help with my last
Eunos either. Did you check with A-Plan?
The 1.8s are a little stiffer anyway, which might be a good thing. Also
a little heavier but it's not that noticeable.
