As I recall, it's the other way around, as the Japs don't use salt /
grit on their roads and tend to chop their cars in before the first
    Jap-style 'MOT' test is due.

I once bought a Isuzu Trooper J reg Jap import & underneath was like new,
any UK ones at that age would have flaked away

MX-5s are MUCH cheaper than any decent 7 type beastie, and much less of
a pain in the arse if you're ever likely to drive one for anything other

Nige, sill rot, water pumps, seized rear brake calipers, broken electric
window cables and crash damage are the main things to look for.

Don't worry too much about the 'belt if it's a 1.6. If the belt lets go
just pop another one on. It's unusual that anything bends when they let
go. Not unheard of, but very unusual. The one I replaced a belt on
hadn't done any damage when the old belt let go.

I rate 'em. Proper RWD little fun machine.

Maybe that's how myths get started: the cars come here clean so people
    assume they're better undersealed.

I have no idea about these cars myself, incidentally.

  11. Ones from Japan generally don't see salty roads duing their life there
so tend to have little or no rot when they arrive.

I don't know for sure, but going by the forumsphere, if anything people
generally believe that UK domestic cars have more rust proofing than Jap
ones rather than the other way round.

I bought a Eunos for a grand (to sell on) and not only *was* it mint, it
still is. Flew through its MO with no advisories too. Never missed a beat
and it gets leathered halff to death.
Because they handle brilliantly, they're fun to drive, relatively cheap to
buy and cost **** all to keep running?

**** me. Read that list and no **** would ever buy one:)

I'm sure my brother would crap himself if he read it, but thankfully, he
didn't before bought a 1.6 MX5 almost 2 years ago which hasn't given him an
    ounce of trouble.

  20. My six foot five 115kg mate had no probs driving an mx-5 even with the roof up.
He must be huge not to fit in one.
