All my heroes are falling in battle...
....on a specific forum or NG. My point was that our RL interactions need not
be as restricted as our choice of NGs and forums. I'm obviously flogging a
    dead 'orse here.

Given the spares availability for MVs, I suspect this is an attempt to
cobble together at least one fully functional bike.

That's where things like the Yahoo group really pay off. Spares can be a
problem in this county as dear old 3X choose not to keep anything in
stock. But the Swiss, Dutch & Australian importers all have a
comprehensive supply, & the list members in those countries are more
than happy to get anything you need & post it. Admittedly it's not much
help if you're waiting for parts under warranty, but you can get around
it if you don't mind paying for them.

I just got tired of you fawning over me all the time.
Clearly there's no reason that they *have* to be restricted. However, if
you've met a bunch of people on-line, and arranged to meet those same
people in real life why would you want a bunch of outsiders butting in?

The only thing odd about Preston's post was that he was inviting some
total strangers along solely on the basis of owning a particular bike: the
original MV-only ride-out makes perfect sense.

That was my point about being unnconnected with personal qualities, etc.
Anyway, bored of this. Let's duff someone else up.

Is this the famous Porl irony?
Forgive me if it is, I'll *whoosh* myself later...

You seem to be saying that you don't like the idea of one-make RL
meetings, yet you're quite happy to attend a UKRM drinks night.

I don't quite see the difference between a bunch of people with
a common interest between them, in this case the ownership of an
MV, meeting up and the members of UKRM meeting up in RL.

Maybe you can point out the difference?

Think of it as a recruitment drive. A lot of the regulars on the Tiger
rides came from other groups when we opened up the invitations for the
    '02 Stonehenge run.

I'll do my best Antony: When ukrmers meet for a drink not only do they not
exclude non-ukrmers they usually welcome them.

Is it clear yet? Or is it still a bit of a struggle?

Oh, I see. I obviously don't subscribe to all the other
newsgroups you post the UKRM London Drinks notices to...
