The last total lunar eclipse for quite some time is at 3 am.

    That is all.

I am not sure if that latitude is invited to the party. ICBW, of course
    BICBATGI.

Yeah, I thought it was clouding over. That'll be why.

Looking at the Met Office IR satellite animation, I reckon that by about 3am
the SW will be clear and you'll be socked in.

With my history of astronomical phenomena, I wouldn't be surprised. I was
a lucky bastard in Cornwall for the solar eclipse, mind, and had a 306b
parting of clouds at the moment of totality which was almost religious.

Point of order. The Moon goes red and does not disappear.

I thought the feeling of LN's bumps was already being discussed in the
"while I'm doing things I swore I'd never do" thread.

  12. Ooh, handy being on nights this week. I'll go and have a nosey later
    on...

Well, the penumbra may have started to intersect the disc, but it's not
immediately obvious to the naked eye. I'll have another look in half an
hour or so, when I've warmed up again.

I haven't actually managed to get to bed yet so may as well stay up.
There's thin cloud but still a clear enough view, just slightly fuzzy.

Edit - There's now a fucking thick blanket of the stuff and it has
    disappeared.
Oh ignore him. He's never sat on a roof just to watch the stars.

It's a bugger. Classic eclipse weather.
Stood out in a field with a little red torch, a book of star maps and his
    father's binoculars.

Far more civilised hour of 10pm here (but the temperature of -lots is far
    less civilised!).

  17. It's a bit bizarre to be reading this article:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_21,_2008_lunar_eclipse

at 9.21pm on the 20th Feb, as it starts "A total lunar eclipse took
place on Thursday morning, February 21, 2008".

Oh now there's a lovely clear morning.

Red cellophane over an ordinary one and her grandfather's star maps
    but yes, that's about it.

Unless you were quoting? Too early to be sure with you.

I had a last glance at the full set of oktas at about 3:30, before I
shambled off, grumbling, to the scratcher.
It was an ordinary torch with a red-painted bulb. At one point, my parents
had a converted lifeboat that they were restoring propped up in the yard.
It was a vast thing, and I'd use the cockpit as an observation balcony.
With me, it's always too early to be sure.
