    thanks for sharing.

on a similar note, annual bonuses are all very well, but I nearly shat
when I opened my payslip a few minutes ago and saw now much tax+NI I'd
    paid this month :-/

    Dividends. YKIMS.

I just had the revenue at me again for only paying under 20% taxation on
gross income in 2005. They Don't Like it Up Em' Sir.

and how precisely would this work, given that I'm a PAYE permanent non-
    directorial employee?
well, no. On the plus side, they wrote to me a few weeks back and told
me that as my tax situation has been "stable" for 5 years, they no
longer require me to do yearly self-assessment.

    Quite.

Anyway, it's a pretty tenuous link from ogden's OP. Smacks of a "I
haven't boasted on ukrm about how much I earn for while" post.

    I wasn't looking for any.
I thought that too, but it's a bit more this month.

    Yeah, tell me about it.

On the plus side, that's the car paid for.

You've forgotten Gordon's extra 1%, right? The old 10% is only payable
on the first 30k or so, but the extra 1% is payable on the whole lot.

and that neatly accounts for the extra 80 odd quid I paid in NI this
    month.

    that's exactly what it was!

I was going to do a separate post, but decided to piggy-back it onto
    this one instead.

    not quite - I got a payrise too :)

Anyway, we just need to wait for AntonyE's post to sicken the lot of
    us.

The honest yet subtle approach, eh? I quite like it, but it'll never
    catch on.

well, technically I haven't actually made any claim regarding what I
get paid (just the bonus bit). But genuinely, I was a bit surprised to
actually see the tax+NI amount written down.

I was having my own little smirk added onto yours of course
Monaco, and the weather is so nice too.

    135%

Take (small) comfort in the fact that I'm still not
fully vested until Sept, so only get 27/36ths of
that. Plus I didn't get any discretionary bonus
this year, nor a payrise! The cheek.

I said nothing about not being able to afford one, it was
about keeping my dangly bits where they should be.
