Looks like a new thread from where I'm sat. Wotcha Mick.

I liked Martins white suit when he campaigned as an independent against
Hamilton, there's always room for a few mavericks in any civilised system.

I am reminded of a sign in my local railway station's car park that says
"A Wheel-clamping Service Has Been Introduced". I suppose I should be
grateful it doesn't start "For Your Convenience..."

  3. It must be this Turnpike I'm using then.
I saw a program about him and he was very superstitious about it. He was
often recognised to his safety and advantage in the strangest of foreign
places. He wouldn't go out in a war zone without it on. (No accounting
    for shrapnel though)
Would you have bought a used car from Neil Hamilton?
    Oh yes!

Reckon he got out of war reporting at about the right time.
A pretty good choice of opponent for an independent really.
Hamilton had been revealed as the receiver of Al Fayeds brown envelopes.

Nope, it's spread to the PSNI as well. I blame "your lot" for the whole
    shebang I do

It is patently obvious to me that I am unable to work *for* anyone again.
Not a company large enough to employ Thought Police anyway.

which lot would that be then? I have so many labels it's difficult to
know quite what "lot" I belong to these days.

I know there are those in here who argue about a right to unfettered free
speech but it's the only way to combat the kind of lunacy noted above.

You smile and nod appreciatively at the appropriate times.

And when, one of your staff says "they got you too, then?" you respond
with "they got me years ago".

  11. I think you need to tell Champ about that. I've not registered on the
    BHALC radar screen.
Well I would have a problem with it being unfettered so that it incited
hatred or violence etc. I do accept it is a very thin line between
allowing full expression of views and it then becoming insulting /
damaging. Other than that I'm not re-opening that debate as I very
carefully stayed out of it last time it was aired on here.

Very little I'd imagine, given the general apathy towards voting for the
European Parliament in this country. If he was going to be attacked it
was when he ran against Neil Hamilton but as Tallbloke rightly pointed
out elsewhere Hamilton was an ideal candidate for an independent to run
    against.

Registered Firearms Dealer fiend of mine was returning from (IIRC)
Birmingham auctions with a stack of (mainly) antique guns. He was pulled
over in the wee small hours by the dibblery and quizzed about where he
was going - evidently dibble and Wdibble must have been bored, or - no,
    we won't go into that....

Wdibble saunters round the back of his estate and shines a torch in the
window. Fiend said to dibble (who was checking licence and stuff) "I
think your colleague is trying to tell you that the back of my estate is
    full of guns."

Dibble grins, then glances back, to see Wdibble doing a little dance and
pointing into the back, where muskets and early breech-loaders were
stacked in layers. It took the fiend a couple of hours to convince them
and armed reinforcements that everything was legit and above board.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer Welshman.....

  14. Unless you're looking for anything approaching hi-fi, and then it
    sort-of loses its appeal.

  15. Friend of mine worked for Marconi (pretty sure it was Marconi) and while
testing radar etc, every time he put to sea he was given the honorary
    rank of Commander.

It the difference between between free language and expression and behaviour
designed to created a disturbance or breach of the peace. I do not advocate
the latter. Yes we can do without another thread on it!

  19. I remeber the term "customer" being sarcastically defined as "one who buys",
round about the time BR dropped the word "passenger" in its favour.

So does this mean the police are now officially welcoming "inducements"?
