What's the wireless keyboard of choice these days, preferably with
    trackpad or ball?

I'm using one of these now:
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3848&cl=gb,en

As the blurb says, "Perfect size for your coffee table."

    If I needed a full-sized keyboard, I'd probably prefer a diNovo Edge; I
    think Champ's got one.

    Sucky solution.

Personally I like my MAC Bluetooth, but there's no ball option which is
    a PITA

Depends on usage I guess. I just use my HTPC as an... err... HTPC. So
99% of the time I just need the remote to control Media Center/Portal.
Any maintenance etc that needs a keyboard, I do during the day from the
    office using VNC.

The only keyboard I could find that I was happy to have in my living
room was the Logitech DiNovo Edge:
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/192&cl=gb,en

Bloody expensive, but it looks just as good in real life as on the
website. One of the nicest things is that it sits in it's charging
stand edge on, so takes up minimal space. Also, it works extremely
    well.

I wrestled with the idea of spending over 100 quid on a keyboard for a
while last autumn, and eventually got one from eBay for about 80 quid.
A quick google suggests you can buy them new now for under 100.

Lack of number pad won't suit everyone, though.

So you don't really need a keyboard :)

Sorry, I thought we were talking about gizmos - what's 'need' got to do
    with it?

But yes, you're right, most of the time I don't. Oh, forgot to mention
I also use VNC on my phone sometimes if I can't be arsed to reach for
    the laptop.

For a PC that's mainly used as a media centre, I can't imagine it'd be
    that much of an issue.

For general use, perhaps not, but Higgins appeared to be asking about
HTPC usage. I've never found the lack of a number pad to be an issue
when using it with my HTPC.

Ah. It would have helped if I'd bothered to find out what HTPC stood
    for.

Hmm it's nice but if anything gives me occasional trouble it is
    bluetooth.

    You have one?

I have to reset the bluetooth occassionally, but it's just the press
of a button on the back of the keyboard.

Ah no, I went wireless just because Bluetooth annoys me. Particularly,
TBF, file transfers from PC to Phone. Some phones and some lapdogs just
    will not talk.

    Shit, yes sorry.
Never got round to doing that. The screen is too small and OSX VNC is
    not the best IMHO.

I use my mini as some other stuff as well, so I'd really rather like a
cordless keyboard / pad arrangement, but not paying for a DiNovo.

    I think he's speaking generally.
    I was very impressed with the diNovo Mini: no configuration required;
never gives any trouble. If you needed to carry it around for some odd
reason, the Bluetooth dongle clips in behind the battery flap.

The only limitations I've found of it being so small are that it doesn't
have backslash or function keys, but that isn't generally a problem for
    the use it gets.
