Another of my regular 'there's bound to be someone on here who knows just
about everything' challenges: Anybody got any idea where I could get hold of
round about 100 empty miniature bottles, so I can make up some small gifts
of homemade sloe gin? Failing that, anybody want to drink round about 100
miniatures and send me the bottles?

    Cheers in advance as always.

FFS! I was thinking of making 3 litres this year, how much do you do?

Cheers for that. Unfortunately I didn't read the mail 'til after the auction
ended, and the site above only has plastic bottles - we're really after
glass ones. Scientific equipment suppliers are about all we've found so far,
    which might do the trick.

We're thinking of putting them on the table for the adults at the wedding. A
hundred's a few more than we'll need, but even if we did that many, a
hundred 30ml bottles is only 3 litres.

Yebbut, what about your share? I would never give all of my Sloe Gin away,
we just got back from walking the dogs and this years crop looks superb,
we will be harvesting soon and freezing (beats pricking the little
    blighters)

Feck it, I feel 4 litres coming on this year.

Heh. When I disposed of my collection of miniatures, many moons ago, I
marked some of them up as chess pieces and a mate and I played a game.
When you lost a piece, you had to drink it.

With the benefit of hindsight, this was the wrong way around, because
after losing (say) four or five pawns, you were on a slippery slope and
started trying to castle with your bishops. Should have been "winner
    drinks".

That said, it was a hoot of an afternoon. At a bike rally, it was. Got
a a picture of the epic game somewhere, too.

You are obviously a better Googler than I sir. I trawled about twenty
websites before giving up - the problem being the huge number of scientific
    equipment sites that came up.

I assume you mean sloe gin - dunno how to make gin itself from scratch.

    Sloe gin is very easy:
    - Buy the strongest gin you can get hold of
    - Try not to drink any
    - Get 2 empty bottles (same size as the bottle of gin)
    - Pick sloes
    - Thorougly wash and *dry* them
    - Add sugar to each bottle - depends on your taste, but I normally use 6-8
    oz for a 700ml bottle
    - Decant gin equally into bottles
    - If you picked the sloes after the first frost, just lob them in the
bottles 'til they're nearly full (just leave a small air gap)
    - If you picked before the frost, either freeze then defrost them
(remembering to dry them thoroughly), or prick a hole in each one with a
skewer before putting them in the bottle
    - Cap bottle and seal well
    - Now just give the bottles a good shake every day or two, to mix the sugar,
for the first six weeks or so
    - Leave to mature for at least three months. Younger stuff is sharper, older
    stuff a bit more mellow
