For accessorising? Because we don't actually all overtake where it's
    illegal, do we?

Of course! Well apart from the krauts - they just whinge about other
    people doing it.

Well, failing to stop at stop lines, overtaking on white lines and
exceeding speed limits are all part of my daily commute. Plod round
here are in the habit of sitting around out of view, clocking with
hand-held cameras, and one or two unmarked cars with cameras built in.

OTOH I've never once been stopped in CH, although I've had a fair few
    radar flashes.

Speeding ticket bingo. They must be really disappointed on discovering his
real identity as Rick Wakeman, who lived in CH not far from the French
border, is a prized capture for the gendarmerie.

I think it's fine, however if you have a prang and the InsCo (in the UK, if
it's a UK bike) finds out that you spend over 6 months of the year in France,
    then you could have problems.

I suppose. TBF, it's the prefecture that wouldn't change the licence though.

Someone lobbed their bike outside my front door and he was on foreign
plates. Plod impounded it on the spot until they could confirm his
residence status and that he had not been here for longer than the grace
    period.

On which note, is there anything I need to get before I hit Belgian
    roads?

You know, hi-viz tabards, warning triangles, bulb sets, insurance,
    sobriety, that kind of thing.

Yes, something pointy to gouge your eyes out so your observation skills
    match those of the locals.

I'll nick a couple of fire warden things from work.

    Hmm. Reckon this'd do? http://tinyurl.com/24udcbu

**** France. it's not even a proper country. Unlike Belgium.

Oh, yeah, health and travel insurance too. Good point.

I just googled for 'essential items for a road trip' and not one result
mentioned mescaline or a Lamborghini Diablo with a couple of hot chicks
    in spandex jumpsuits.

    The modern world sucks.

None of that is needed in Spain, but failure to carry replacement
bulbs for your lights is a fast and easy way for the Fascist Pig to
put you a fine. Also, evidence of insurance is a must, along with bike
    documents.

Is there some sort of insurance/tax disc/vignette to display, like in
France, or perhaps it's on the reg document, like in CH? Or maybe they
just have a very quick and efficient database and access thereto.

In moments of idle conjecture about the possibility of squeezing more
BHP out of the Voxan I thought it might be quite a hoot to ride a plus
100 BHP French manufactured bike in France. Then I realised that they
would probably never suspect anything unless I attempted to evade
    capture at implausibly high speed.

If taking a vehicle to France as often as I do it seems only sensible to
equip it with anything that might cause a little local difficulty if
absent when apprehended, so I keep a hi-vis waistcoat in the glove box
and two warning triangles, first aid kit and spare bulbs in the boot of
the Mazda 6. I wouldn't bother on a bike though. I also fit beam
benders, which I re-use each trip with the aid of double sided tape.
Also the relevant paperwork, though IME it is proof of insurance cover
that they are most keen to see on routine checks.

You can register a vehicle (so long as it complies with technical
requirements) in France even if not a permanent resident, so long as you
can produce a document showing you have a property in France. Usually a
recent electricity bill or a 'justacatif'(SP?) from EDF.

Which reminds me that I really ought to notify them that the SO YZ 250
has been permanently exported from their shores.
