What do you reckon a reasonable % knockdown is on a new bike purchase that
would still be fair to both sides?

Total value with all 'bits' would be approx. £6900 if taken at 'list' price.

I'm thinking at least 5%... is any higher still realistic? [1]

[1] I want a good deal for both sides - not interested in extracting maximum
blood from the dealer at the expense of 'goodwill' IYSWIM.

If this is from Goodhall's then don't expect much at all, they don't
have the buying power of somewhere like George Whites. 5% may be ok as a
starting point depending on how ruthless and uncaring you are, but as I
said, don't be too surprised if they can't do the deal at that discount.
Personally I'd start at 7% and barter down to 5% as my last call before
looking elsewhere. There is probably only 10% in the deal for a small
bike shop like the one in Didcot.

How does the px compare to what anyone else is offering and current
    retail values?

PX is on a par and appropriate to retail - ie it's pretty good as offers go.

They've offered 5% off the RRP of the bike - I'm just pondering whether or
not to go for 5% off the whole deal (ie accessories included).

Ta for the info - as I said I have a price I'm happy to pay, but equally I
don't to just spend money for the sake of it.

As your bike is bloody clean and lowish mileage I'd expect him to be
able to shift it quickly and turn a decent profit from it, which leaves
you in a reasonable bartering position. If you had a GSX600F that was
tatty and had highish miles then maybe it'd be a different story.

Try at 7% and stress that he doesn't need to do anything to your Gixer,
thus keeping his profit high on the whole deal. His accessory sales will
be where he makes the most money. If he doesn't want to drop on the
price of the bike itself, then accept at list price and push him to do
the accessories at cost or at least at a substantial discount. He'll be
making something like 50% profit on genuine Suzuki accessories, and
33.3% on aftermarket stuff like Scottoilers etc.

Are you financing the bike through the dealer, or paying cash to him
with a loan sourced elsewhere? I know this is a personal question, but
there are good deals to be had on finance rates at the moment too.

Take it at 5% off the bike itself, he won't have much else to play with
tbh. Push for a better discount off the accessories though, cos he makes
    a killing on those.

Remember he's getting a decent gixer 600 that needs no work or money
spending on it to sell it at top book. He will be making plenty of
profit from the overall deal, so don't go too soft on him when you
    haggle for the accessories.

Not through the dealer - there is no way they can match the APR and
    conditions I have found elsewhere.
I know they're willing to offer more on the discount because they get the
commission on the finance, but in this case no discount will make up the 4%
    odd APR difference.

I shall try the 7% off the whole package at their suggested PX and see how
it goes down - I think it still leaves them some margin and saves me some
    cash... thanks for the info.

Before you go that route, work out how much difference there is between
7% off the total deal at list price and compare that to 5% off the bike
with whatever discount he offers on the accessories. You may find the
latter better. Whatever, don't accept a lower px, cos you'll only pay
    for it elsewhere.

At 7% off everything, that's a fair bit more saved than at 5% bike, 10%
    accessories.

If 5% everything, then it reverses.

I'll have to take my laptop with me :)

Just work out a total cost you're willing to pay, and negotiate to below
that or walk away leaving your phone number for if he changes his mind..

I do have a sensible side too, it's just generally wasted in UKRM.
