Despite my feeble protestations I am accompanying my wife and daughter to Euro-Disney next Thursday (by train, of all things). Any of you Parisians feel like offering me an afternoon/evening of escape from Mickey and his pals? Just how easy is it to get from E-D to Paris without personal transport, anyway?
very easy indeed. http://www.citefutee.com/orienter/rer.php# and click on "le plan des reaseaux RER". You will be located at Marne La Valle Chessy - terminal A4 on the Red line. Chatelet is the central hub of the RER network but there are connections to Metro lines at all of the central area stops. From memory it is about 45 mins from Marne La Valle to central Paris. The real key to getting round by Metro is to remember the line number and the name of the last station for the direction you are travelling in - for example Line 1 direction La Defense. It is not like the Underground where you are directed by northbound, southbound and then a line name. I got hopelessly lost in Paris the very first time I used the Metro because I had assumed it would be just like London's tube. How wrong I was. On the RER remember the line letter - in your case A - and then the terminal. Also and this is important if you making other trips on the RER there are different service patterns on the same line. The patterns all have a code e.g. VICK which is shown on the front of the train and on platform displays. The platform electronic displays and the timetables on the platform show you what codes stops where. Some codes only apply on certain days because there are different rush hour patterns. However all stops in the central area are served and it is only if travelling to the suburbs where you have to watch out. You should be fine because you are going right to the end of a branch when you return to ED. Click on "plan du quartier" for Marne La Vallee station on the web page I provided above and you get an interactive map of the area by the station showing all the disneyland buildings close by. Have fun.
