He is (I assume) confusing it with 'emmerdeur', probably because 'm' in
    French is pronounced, 'emm'.

  2. See the footnote which you conveniently snipped.

It's not an exact or 100% accurate translation, I know. But it reads
better in Engl;ish. Which is why I was careful to insert the footnote.
    Which you snipped.....

It was a simple question from someone who's learning to speak French,
    nothing more.

You made up a word and no footnote about it being a rough translation
into English is going to make any difference what so ever.

    So, pull your neck in.

Also note that there is a perfectly normal verb 'emmerder', as in "tu
m'emmerde", roughly meaning "you're pissing me off".

    Yes you did.
The feminine 'emmerdeuse', doesn't mean that the masculine form is
    'emmerdeux'. It's 'emmerdeur'.

Oh but of course, you 'won't read this'. How convenient.

  7. No, I didn't.
Why don't you actually google for the word or something? From memory, it
means something like "an annoying prick". Une emmerdeuse (the feminine
version) is more widely used. Or was when I were a lad.
Well, you're the one who's accusing me, all of a sudden, of making up
words that you've never heard of.

The word you were looking for, as Des has already pointed out, was
'emmerdeur' (emmerdeux is not a French word as far as I can find. No
French dictionary or online translator recognises the word).

Having found this word before posting, and as it translates as
'nuisance' or a stronger form there of, and does not in any way shape or
form translate to anything remotely similar to 'shitty', I suggested
another, more accurate word to your description.

Didn't look very far? Your call. And Des's, as I didn't see his posting.
Yes, which loses the 'shit' connotation in the sense of the joke.

Oh, dear, one letter. Jesus, wtf. Just forget it, OK?

And would you like to post a link to a dictionary that uses the word? I
can provide thousands of URLs that spell words wrong, too.
What joke? Nor does the word have any connection with the word shit,
even if you had spelt it right.
I'm not the one who got the arse because someone dared suggest another
word - one which would be correct in the context of your 'joke'. I
innocently suggested a different word - you got on your sanctimonious
soap box, just for a change.

  14. Does it matter? It's slang. Chances are you won't find the word bolloxed
in the OED either. Does that mean it shouldn't be used?
Except for the phonetics, and the letters m-e-r-d-e in it?
    <Holds head>

Because the name of the car was MR2, and....

    Oh, never mind. Carry on.
And 'sanctimonious' isn't the right word in this context, either. Stick
    to vids, not text.

It's not. It's a non-existent word, and you appear to have
'extrapolated' backwards from the feminine form of the word
('emmerdeuse'), to find what you thought was the masculine form of the
word. Unfortunately, you extrapolated incorrectly, and your pride as a
'francophone' seems to have taken a hit.

    That's all.

    It obviously does to you.
And Scunthorpe has c-u-n-t in it - does that mean it actually refers to
    cunts?
You really are an arrogant ****. I do apologise whole heartedly for
    daring to question your superiority.

Oh, but I suggest you do a little search on the story behind the name
change for MR2 because guess what - yes, one of the versions of the
story is that MR2 sounded like merdeux.

  17. It's the basis of a joke, so in this context, yes.
Shrug. If you want to appear a know-all on the basis of a Reader's
Digest correspondence course or similar, then you must be prepared to
come across someone more arrogant than yourself. Live with it....
    One of them. Carry on.

Except all I did was ask if another word was more accurate. You, in your
usual arrogance, got the arse because someone dared question your expert
knowledge. An even bigger kick to your over-inflated ego is that the
word I suggested may actually be the correct one.

And, as usual, you can't admit you're wrong or that you've over-reacted
to a snub that wasn't even a snub. Instead you resort to your tedious
fucking arrogant whining that you resort to every single time someone
    doesn't kiss your arse.

  20. Because. It. Does. Not. Work. In. The. Context. Of. The. Joke.
No, I'm quite happy to admit that 'emmerdeur' would have been a better
word. As for whining, sweetie-pie, strikes me that if there's any of
that going on, it's not coming from this keyboard. Are you sure you've
got the word correct? I mean, you got 'sanctimonious' spectacularly out
    of context.....

But whatever you think is best.
