So what does it feel like?

It's a bit like this. I have, sitting in a garage, a rather super Sprint
ST1050. Counting aloud, I figure it's probably been out of the garage
about 5 times other than to go on IAM observed rides, or practice for
    observed rides.

While I still enjoy it when I'm on it, I've never been one that found
the enjoyment enough to get me to go out, IYSWIM.

Sensibly, with spring coming up, shortly would be a good time to get the
servicing up to date, get the recall done and then sell it.

Problem is I quite like being a 'biker' even if I hardly ever ride. I
don't really fancy the idea of being an ex-biker.

    What would the panel recommend?

Oh obviously you need a Ducati S^h^h^h^h^wibble flip mumble

Buy a trail or trials bike, that's a lot of fun.

    A ride.

It's OK. It's normal. When you don't do something for a while, you get
blase'. It doesn't seem that special. You forget the joy it brought
you in the first place. The cure is simple. Just force yourself to
suit up, put the helmet on, and turn the key. A pretty day helps. Find
a lonely road through nice countryside, and it won't be long before
you see the light and wonder how you could have been so foolish.

Speaking personally, the Ixie track days at Cadwell got my enthusiasm
    going again.

I'm not very good at just going out for a ride for the ride's sake
IYSWIM. I prefer to have a destination that I can get to by an
interesting route, spend some time at, and then enjoy the ride home. A
short circuit race meeting, a bike show or just an autojumble will do.

Not that into riding in a group either, though there will be a bit of
that on Pahnd Island in June (well three of us).

I'm also really looking forward to riding a SO MX bike up some very
    short roads.

Yers, and more accurately, not really. It never brought me joy. I
enjoyed it, but then I enjoy driving as well.

I have no desire at all to track day. Either cars or bikes. Just can't
    see the point.
Yes, I'll do that. Especially if I know parking will be an issue, or
similar, but then it's just a tool that I dont really need[1]
    Have fun

[1] Yes, I have loads of them as well.

Odd, isn't it. My father hasn't ridden for about 15 years and his bike
is still in the garage - we fire it up occasionally just to make sure it
still does. Would he sell it? Of course not, 'cos then he'd no longer be
    a biker.
Get out and ride what you've got

    or

    Get something you'd enjoy riding

    or

Get something that cheaper that can sit in the garage for years unused
but allowing you to remain a biker

Exploring the envelope without the chance of a tractor pulling out of a
farm gate or white van man appearing coming towards you on your side of
the road. Though presumably an IAM rider would never be in such a
    scenario.

I'm wondering why you ever bought a bike in that case.

I am currently bikeless but I refuse to accept this situation is
permanent so still consider myself a biker. I've insured my wife's 125
in my name (she never rides it) so I can keep my no claims bonus for
when I return. I quite fancy a little trail bike for messing about on
but I know it won't get used regularly.

I have no real desire to find the edge of the envelope.
Though presumably an IAM rider would never be in such a scenario.\

That would certainly be the aim (did you see what I did, there).
Well originally to get to work in Old St.

IU fancy another Triple, but never rode that just for fun, either.
That might work if I could convince myself that the cheaper thing would
ever get ridden over a better bike.

At least it's black and a lot cheaper than the new Ducati equivalent.
Should be a fair old scramble for 'erself getting up onto the perch
