What you want for that kind of stuff is to look up "Steel Stockholder" in
    the yellow pages.

Our local place, Devizes Steel Supplies keep this sort of thing in stock.
They will guillotine the plate and cut the angle to order. Bear in mind that
the finish on most plate and angle is as it comes from the mill (hot rolled
    and covered in scale).
If you want bright finish, BMS (bright mild steel) is available but much
    more expensive.
As Jim stated in hi post, you want a steel stockholders.

  4. What you really want is a rare beast these days: a scrap yard where you
can rummage. There's one near Pip and me (O'Dells in Biggleswade).

If you find one, treasure it.

Or a steel fabricator, who is bound to have lots of

  10. I was going to query that: I was taught that BMS was Black Mild Steel and
BDMS was Bright Drawn Mild Steel, but it seems that BMD == BDMS these
    days.

  11. I suspect you're probably sorted, but Mackay's metal warehouse in
    Cambridge would probably do that.

Or as they used to be called when i rebuilt the Mk1 RS2000 - heaven.

The one near Caistor was a day out & we used to have a great day at it
    too...

  13. I assume you've looked in YP and found Steel Stockholders? Most of them
won't be interested in piddling small amounts, but some will.
Failing that, farmers buy steel plate, box, bar and angle for doing
stuff around the farm, so look up Farm Supplies.

There was a great scrappy called Lenny Meddler's just off the A140
    outside Aylsham in Norfolk.

Looks like it's all been cleared out now, but you can see some cars
still sitting around here and there on the outskirts of the trees. The
field with the tyre tracks was rammed with cars when I lived around
that area. As you drove up the drive there were loads of old car roofs
sitting up each side, it took me a few visits to realise they used to
be complete 1930s and 40s cars that had slowly rusted away until all
that was left was the upper part of the body sunk into the ditch and
    the roof showing above it.

Lenny lived in the huge house in the middle of the woods, and there was
a fenced off compound with his special cars in, like Lotus Cortinas and
all manner of damaged 50s and 60s exotica, about 60 or 70 of them all
    told.

  15. Then you are going to want to sand it and etch prime it any way.

Ah, see the post re: amazing timelapse?
I did order the Dolly that tracks the camera, but after some thought, I
    cancelled the order
and I'm going to have a go at making it
Mainly because I'm sure I can build it for a lot less than the $ 650
    purchase price,
after all its just a DIY'er cashing in on the interest he created with is
    invention.

My mistake probably. Our local supplier always understands when I just ask
    for 'bright'.
