It looks like the Triumph could well be off to a new owner soon, so my
quest for a replacement machine is gathering momentum.

My interest has been very much focussed on the Ducati SS models,
    particularly the 800 / 900 / 1000 variants.

The models badged as "Dark", do I remember correctly that they are a
lower spec than the normal ones. This may or may not be academic, as
the matt black paint doesn't really do it for me, I much prefer the
shiny red or yellow variants. Aso, are the matt black ones all "dark"
    models.

Did the bigger engines come in 'Dark' spec?

As I recall, if you got a 750 / 800 Dark it came with just a single
    front disc.

Not sure about higher up the range - but, yes, they were lower spec.
    models.

I've seen a number of 900's with matt black paintwork, not sure if they
    are "dark" spec though.

  4. I think they are. As SteveH says,m they were basically lower spec bikes.
But they were very cheap, and these days, doubling up the discs and/or
uprating the suspension is easy and cheap.

Probably simpler just to get a decent used full-spec bike, though.

Was certainly the case on the Monsters back when I had one.

    Sorry Pip
The triumph was sort of matt black.
