A ZX9R would be my first choice but I'm biased. A BMW K1100 would be my second choice but again I'm being biased (1). Looking at the other suggestions I'd have to say that a Gaytona would be over your price limit, a ZZR1100 is a big old unit but fucking quick, a ThunderAce is a good idea for much the same reasons as a ZX9R or as another left field suggestion why not have a look at an RF900 Suzuki? They'll do pretty much what a ZX9R or a ThunderAce will do but they're a **** of a lot cheaper. Hondas are shit. (1) They're quick enough on twisty roads if you get the RS version and have the bollocks to make it do what you want it to. Ask Andy R...
I had a white VFR750FJ. I wore black leathers and a white helmet. It was great fun going down the motorway like Moses parting the Red Sea. This was before plod went hi-viz mad and West Mercia plod wore black leathers with white helmets...
having owned both the daytona and the 9R. I'd recommend the 9R. far cheaper to service and less top heavy to ride. -- Adie (replace spam with nickname to reply) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ keeper of the ukrm faq for my sins YZF-R1 : ZX9R E1 : GPz 750 turbo MRO#11 BOTAFOF#7 BOTAFOT#130 DIAABTCOD#17 MIB#24 YTC#16 BOB#15 ex-UKRMMA#22 BOMB#11
Weird that, I much prefered the Daytona to my 9R. Horses for courses and all that. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
All things to all riders, the 9R. Fast as most of us would like, light (for a Kawasaki) economical and comfortable. Can't go wrong with a 9R. RF900, eh? Fast as you like (for its age), prolly the most uncomfortable bike I've ever ridden, especially around town on a hot day. Not as thirsty as a Bandit but nowhere near the 9R for economy, however the tank range is still longer than I care to sit on the thing. Useless for touring as soft luggage either sits outside the rear plastic making the thing as wide as a small car, or on top of the plastics making the thing as wide as a small car and looking stupid to boot. Perhaps the most underrated and underpriced (now) bike of its generation, an absolute steal for the performance available.
