IIRC, the record set by someone I worked with In Rome for the London -
Rome trip was 18 Hours. That was Chunnel, French Autoroute, then
    Autostrada, with no sleep break.

24 Hours is more comfortable, including a kip stop ...

My mate Alex is still delivering Mitsubishi Evos to Austria. He reckons
his best time from Market Harborough to Austria and home again was just
    under 40 hours.

  3. There's probably lots, when you think about what it means.

I'm probably misremembering. He was in a BMW Estate, and didn't drop
below 120 for most of the way, apart from fuel stops. Even a rough
calculation would put it at less than that, as it's about 1200 miles
as the crow flies via Switzerland, longer taking the autoroute via
    Chamonix.

    I'll ask ;-)

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Try to keep up - he only has an NPPL due to sugar mongness so he
is not allowed out of his UK playpen.

I hadn't realised there was a sugar related defect - I thought he was
    just being a pikey!

  11. I did the coast road in a car a few years ago, always wanted to do it
on a bike so we made a bit of a diversion to do it last year. It was
good, but not as good as I thought it would be, too many houses, a bit
like riding through a non stop housing estate!

  13. Bargain. It just cost me £981 for a crossing in July.

Nor me, but it's tended to be the North Sea or English Channel. I'm
not sure I'd fancy the Bay of Biscay.

How much is going to cost to drive all that way in a decent car with one or
two decent hotel along the way?

Apart from the longer crossing I'm not sure what you think would be
different. Or is it just the longer crossing you'd be worried about?

A damn site less than that, as would flying & hiring a car for a couple
    of weeks.

It's the length of time that stops me doing it. I couldn't go anywhere
near food on a ferry, & can't take travel sickness pills without food,
    therefore I'm fucked.

Nice cars cost at least 50p per mile in real money so I'm not so sure.

Flights/hire car as you say could be cheaper. But then again if you hire
    something decent 50-100 a day.
