Come on, there must be *somebody*

Having not taken the 7R for a proper jolly yet, I'm thinking of a warmup
for the French run around about the 21st (worryingly, Penzance is about
the same distance by road from Maidenhead as Sedan.)

Current plans are to pootle down to Penzance, crash out for the night
at a hotel, and head back the following day.

So is there anyone in the vicinity who'd be inclined to point me in a
direction to get shitfaced, or am I best sticking with Plan A?

    Ta.

Why Penzance - it's ok, but there's a lot better. And just one night - it is
    a long way you know.

Look up St Ives, St Agnes, Perranporth [1], Mevagissey, Fowey, St Mawes.
Newquay is a bit crap. I've never biked in Cornwall, always been in the car
and never paid that much attention to thw roads. There are some crackine
ones, but it's pretty busy down there, esp if you're thinking of 21 March,
which is the start of Easter school holidays. So Cornwall *will* be busy.

Well, the idea is the distance rather than the destination. I've got
just over a week booked off (use it or lose it basis before the end
of March) so I'm fairly flexible as regards time away.
St. Ives is a possible. Penzance just leapt out as being somewhere
in Cornwall that might have more than a few wooden huts and a church,
    and isn't Newquay.

    I think I am.

<snort> I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt, but really, that
    wasn't deliberate was it?

To me, the idea of a few wooden huts and a church would be my first choice.

There are some lovely villages tucked away, most if not all, with at least
    one B&B.

But if your criteria is to get shit faced as opposed to exploring/scenary
(understandable on a 7R) then I can see the appeal of a 'town'.

Why not go to Scotland instead?

Bloody tourists, cluttering up our roads.

It's been a long time since I was in Penzance, in fact last time I was
there, was before drinking age. So it's difficult to give advice there.
Depends what you want to do I guess.

If you just want to munch miles as quickly as possible, stop, get
bladdered, ride home again, then probably worth picking something easy
to find, or within your SatNav (if you have one), on the fringe of the
    town centre.

The A30 will be quiet enough, compared to the summer months, but the
Easter rush will bring people like you down, so it'll be busier than
normal. It's your quickest route in from Exeter onwards, but it's not a
very exciting road changing irregularly from dual to single carraigeway
and can get policed heavily at times.

If you want something else, you could still head down this way, and then
detour off on some twisties heading for a different town. You won't
munch the same miles, but you'll spend the same amount of time numbing
    your bum.

There are some cracking roads for playing on if you want some detours,
but they don't help eat the mileage up. LMK if you want some pointers.
    Depends on Plan A.

    Well that'd be me then.
Not quite as far as Penzance, but the Driftwood Spars hotel at St Agnes
has a wide selection of good whisky, and it's not Newquay either. I'd
offer to show you round the Eden project but I'm off on holiday myself -
not to Maidenhead admittedly. Have a good trip.
