Paging the Contact Lens wearers

I've just changed from Specsavers Daily Disposables to Specsavers Easy
Vision One Step + lenses, which are actually 02 Optix lenses: £13/mo
including solutions and aftercare. They're all day lenses, and one
can wear them at night should one forget to take them out once in a
    while.

I used to have monthly lenses (Bausch & Lomb) several years ago, but
found that they degrade quickly, and are quite hard at first. These
02 Optix ones are a lot more comfortable, and cost half the price of
    daily lenses.

I've just taken the 02's out and put them away for storage/cleaning
overnight and have to say that the cleaning system is most odd.

One gets a bottle of peroxide and a small capsule with two little
plastic cages in it, and something that looks like metal at the
    bottom.

Pour peroxide bleach into plastic capsule and it fizzes as the metal
object at the bottom starts to react with the bleach, causing bubbles.
Now, take out left lens and try as hard as you can to stick it right
in the middle of the tiny left cage, ditto with right, then leave for
six hours for the metal bits to neutralise the peroxide bleach.

My word, what a drama that was. It took me two minutes per eye to try
and get them in their cages the right way around. I was quite wary of
not letting the lenses dry out as I was doing it. I'm sure they're
inside out and upside down by now.

Are there any 02 Optix wearers here (contact lens consultant said the
02's are quite a new product so not many people are using them as yet,
but they're considered to be 'the best' lens out now) and do you have
any feedback as to the quality or lifespan of the product in
    comparison to other monthly disposables?

Well, the last time I used those I ended up sitting on a park bench
next to a tall dark wanking man.... the shame..

  4. I used to use Specsavers monthlies and used this system. you should be
putting the lens onto the little bobble in the centre of the section
(ie the bit that doesn't move) and closing the cage around it. I found
they don't move around at all, just float in the solution.

at least this way no-one can swap the lids on the lens case thus
swapping which goes into each eye and you spend the day looking
    sideways at things.

Have you thought about the extended wear lens that you leave in for a
month (no taking out each day, yes you sleep in them). costs me
£15.50/month and no hassles with farting around cleaning the things.
put it in, forget about it for a month, wake up each morning being
able to see the clock. bliss. almost like not being blind.

Ahh... guess I should have RTFM :)
I've used these before (although not Specsavers branded ones) and
they're usually quite good, but they just wear out, ime.

While it's great to not be blind, after a few days of all day/night
wear I used to take them out and leave them overnight in soak just
because my eyes felt worn out. I explained this to my contact lens
consultant yesterday and she said that's the best way to deal with
them - while you CAN wear them for an entire month, you really should
take them out once in a while - better for the eyes. I also remember
reading something somewhere about people that wear their lenses for
a-g-e-s and then discover blood vessles growing underneath the lenses.
In addition to this I found that they would dry out more quickly if I
was next to air con/heating and if I was watching telly at night and I
was laying on my side, the left or right lens would dry out if I
wasn't blinking often. Oh, and I almost lost one behind my eye once,
which was fucking freaky. I had issues with things like getting an
eyelash stuck underneath them (feels like youve got a mountain stuck
under the lens) and rubbing my eyes would sometimes dislodge the lens
to the point it would fall out. I do realise that this will also
probably be the case with these O2 Optix ones.

Daily disposables weren't an issue at all. I don't mind cleaning
lenses, but they do work out to be quite expensive.
