Get Angie to follow you in the Jeep. After all, it is
hers and it'll give her a chance to get back into driving.

well, no, but probably a bag of spare clothes etc. and probably a tent.
There just doesn't seem to be a lot of space on the pillion seat/many
    places to mount bungees.

What part of "follow you" wouldn't she understand?

There's a grab handle (for getting onto the centre-stand) on one side
and the seat/helmet lock on the other, with metal indicators towards
the rear and the rear light mounting bracket at the rear. I don't
think you'll struggle for bungee points, tbh, but it'd be a good idea
to get the bike a day or two in advance to experiment a bit.

IME you can get a surprising amount onto the seat, provided enough
straps. A tail pack might increase volumne capacity as well.

Oh, ok, just not immediately obvious from that pic.
hoping to get it at least a week in advance - I'd like to take it for a
bit of a spin locally before setting out for Chimay, IYSWIM.
Aha! I'd forgotten that I owned a tailpack - I'll probably use that,
with a cargo net over the top to keep the safety nazis "happy".

    Cheers.

    heh.

I used my Frank Thomas(!) tailpack on a 4000 mile trip around Europe on
my SZR (which doesn't exactly have a large pillion space) and it was
fine. Ditto up and down to a couple of *OSMs.

Like any luggage item, they're fine if used properly.

I think the general problem is, in Heidegger's immortal phrase "the
    context of equipment".

Or, to paraphrase mightily, "people are idiots".

I just used Tog's favourite firm Leisure directions to book a ferry..
£58 return for an 10 day trip.. not too bad at all.

As I've said, I offer thousands of miles of trouble-free tailpack use
as a counterexample to your claim that they're "inherently dangerous".

In anycase, /bikes/ are "inherently dangerous", so whatever.

AO fucking L. Why bear always gets on his high horse over this issues
I've no idea. It's not exactly rocket science to make sure that
whatever you've got strapped on is securely and safely fastened.
Yeah, but he doesn't ride one anymore, remember.
