I think we should. Question is, I suppose, when _exactly_ does he
    arrive?

Indeed, which is what Champ was trying to organise. I suppose I should
just commit to going and hope I can still ride a bike the day after
    :)

Can I reserve the porch bit then? I'm rapidly running out of excuses
to not go, so I may as well make it a definite arrangement.

Now, what time does everything kick off? It's about five hours from my
gaff, possibly a bit less. Just trying to work out if we can just
leave early Saturday morning without missing too much.

As Ace and I appear to be booked in at Chez Statto, Ginge might want
    to consider this one.

I think most of us will have arrived at the circuit by about noon,
with the drinking starting not long after that.

    Excellent, ta.
Sounds about right. As long as the others forcibly stop me from
staying up drinking on the Friday night.

Last time I did that[1], then started to ride up with Blaney on the
400/4 he'd just bought from me and his mate in his Ferrari, I got
about 10 miles before dropping the fucker when some dozy bint pulled
    out on me.

[1] They didn't arrive until 2230 - we finally got to bed about 0600,
IIRC, five or six bottles of red[2] to the poor.
    [2] The good stuff, too.

"You're quite clearly suffering from a repressive libido complex,
probably the product of an unhappy childhood, coupled with acute
insecurity in adolescence, which has resulted in an attenuation of the
    libido complex."

I don't think it would work.

    I think I know what's coming...
I maintain that was her fault. She cut your lane, and she had the
advantage of visibility, on account of the gradient.
That was the weekend of flat tyres.
Oh yes! A splendid evening, and one I'm keen to repeat. Got any more
motorbikes I can buy from you?

Yeah, well, c'est la vie, an all that. I liked your description at the
time, "she had the legal, but no the moral, right of way". Priority to
the right is a fucking stupid idea anyway and always has been.
Err, if you need an excuse I'm sure I can find something round here.
But we're only 15 minutes from Basel/Mulhouse airport, so you can drop
    in anytime you're passing...

If all goes to plan, at around 9am on 13th July, having driven overnight
    from Derby.

If you happen to be passing then feel free to call in, but you'll have to
deal with Kate when she asks why the **** a bunch of people have turned up
    on such a stressful day[1].....

    Dave

[1] Did I mention we are driving across in a car with 4 cats which are
probably going to make yowly noises all the way from Derby through to
arrival at the new house. Then we have to get them in an escape-proof room.
then we have to start arranging furniture and unpacking what we can. Then
we need to go and buy a fridge so we can at least have a cold beer in the
    evening...

That might be a bit late in the week, but I guess it depends where we
    end up.
Heh. We could 'help' by giving advise if you like...
Ah, perhaps you'd care to hear our experience doing that?

We bought a large cage that would _just_ fit in the back of the volvo
estate, put a litter tray in and lots of newspaper. They weren't at
all happy at first, but it seemed to be mainly streetlights passing
(we left MK at abou 0200) that bothered them. So take a big blanket so
you can completely cover the cage - that way ours all just went to
sleep (or at least we assumed so 0 they shut up at any rate).

We stopped a few times en-route, obviously, giving them water and
crunchy food each time, and they were relatively happy about it. Of
course, it did slow the drive down a fair bit, particularly coming
across the Vosges at a slow enough rate not to throw them around too
much, such that overall we took about 12 hours to do the trip, whereas
un-catted would probably have been closer to 9 or 10. We used the
tunnel, as I guess you'll do, cos I don't think they'd much appreciate
being left in a car deck for an hour while the ship throws them
    around.

On arrival we'd decided to erect a cat-proof enclosure around the back
door, out of garden netting and bamboo canes. Took me about half an
hour to erect, and the cats about ten minutes to escape from. We
caught two of them soon enough and locked them in an upstairs room,
but the other one didn't show his face again until after the removal
    men had been and gone.

He didn't seem at all bothered by the new surroundings as such and
already seemed to have a sense of where home was. Likewise the other
two, who we started letting out after just a couple of days.
Ah, I see a flaw in the plan... How far's the nearest shop/bar?

I've just had a look at the web site and practice finishes at noon, so
I guess the racing starts at around 1.

I should point out that I wasn't actually on the 400/4, which would
have been fine - it was the gixxer that went down. I'm 90% sure that
I'd have avoided it in normal (i.e. not stupidly hungover)
    circumstances.

I hate to break this to you, old bean, but I don't think you'll ever
be truly French. I can imagine how disappointed you are at this
    prospect.

Someone from a civilised country will (I hope) be along in a moment to
say "Marston's Pedigree" to further add to your chagrin.
I'm quite keen on them there gixxers. Let me know when decide you
    need something less common.
Trouble is, my reasons to pass are scant. I'm going through London in
a few weeks, on the way to Denver, but it'll be an outrageous edit of
my itinerary that leaves me a night in Basel!

Heh. The only thing I'd change it for is a K5, and a part-chop would
    be the only sensible thing[1].
Since when did 'outrageous' ever bother you?

[1] Because of the Swiss reg. system, whereby the new bike just uses
the same plates as the old one. Exporting it would involve first
deregistering one and then starting afresh with the other, or having
two on the go at one time, with separate plates and insurance. _Way_
    too complicated.
