Paging the Bimmer K experts.

  1. My ol' K100RS is in fine fettle, apart from the Belly Pan frame.
It's 20 yrs old and sits in the road shite, so I'm not surprised.
I ordered a replacement from Motorworks, it's second hand and slightly
different, but looks as if it can be adapted with supplied bracketry.
Only problem is the front LH mount, just in front of the oil filter cover on
    the sump.
It looks as if it has had rubber attached to it at some point.
I guess its replaceable, but am unsure if it should unscrew from the sump.
Can anyone confirm / deny before I attack it with mole grips / cold chisel.

Glad to be of service :) I replaced that same part on mine after a few years
    when the rubber unglued itself.

  5. Oh well, a good overnight soaking in wd40, and first I try the grip spanner,
    no luck.

Mole grips prove to be useless as well.

A cold chisel and hammer seems to do the trick, until <Tap tap tap - crack

Anyone engineering guru types any good at extracting well seized M8 threads
(recessed) from K100RS sumps and willing to travel to OX12, cash/wine
renumeration and a free supply of tea/coffee/sandwiches available.

    Clumsy ****.

Email me a snail address and I'll pop a suitably sized LH drill bit or
    two in the post.

Bonner's helicoil idea is a good back up plan.

  10. It won't fit .... especially now I've bought a set of proper panniers
    instead of those city cases......

  12. I was in the Fatherland from last Friday until about 2hrs ago.

A quick search found a company called Siebenrock -
http://www.siebenrock.com/ who advertised having a like new 2nd hand one in
    stock.

Ordered on Thursday afternoon, delivered to my hotel in Hanover and arrived
before I did on Friday morning.

30 euros + 9 euros delivery, and they're not wrong, as far as I can tell,
    it's never been on a bike !

I love it when a plan comes together !

    ooh ooh.

What's the smallest LH drill bit you have ? mine are all between 6 &
    8mm.
Unfortunately I need to get a snapped screw shank out of an FJ block
    that's about 4mm in diameter.

Do you have any 3 or 4 mm left hookers ?

    Cheers,

    Paul.

  15. I'll drop yours back in the post this week as I have a spangly new sump (see
    above - result).

Can I pop the old sump over to you at some point to give it a go ?

I guess you may have a better setup than a B&D Workmate and an aging
    reversible hammer drill !

No probs if it can't be salvaged.
