OK, I am day 7 into induction and dont miss milk in my drinks, or bread as
such or even tatties. Im loving the fried breakies the omlettes and all the
    meat.
Ive been forcing myself to dring all the water and have even taken to herb
    tea ffs.

Yesterday morning when i weighed myself I was down almost exactly be a stone
    but i dont feel thinner.
However on weighing myself this morning (same time every day) ive suddenly
gained 4 pound :-( I dont know what it was, thats done that.

    Now, onto my actual query.
Carbs that count, ive read and re read the atkins book explanations and the
ones on the website but cant get to grips with the food labels in stores.
And the more i try to figure this out the more confused i get!

Am i right in saying that for example.
a portion of something has 10 carbs but only 2 sugars then only the 2g of
sugar carbs count and i can ignore the other 8?

And in the above example, what if there is also 3 g of fibre, does that mean
that the net carbs is -1g? Thats not making sense to me at all?

You may want some Psyllium husks for *cough* fibre, tho.
why? The caffeine thing is to minimise the risks of cravings due to low
    blood sugar.
    Is your belt as tight?
Don't weigh yourself each day as your weight fluctuates for a number of
reasons, in fact stop weighing yourself and stick to waist size etc
The food labels in the UK are a bit tricky to fathom and inconsistent
    into the baragain.
no, that wouldn't count as the fibre is not digestible.

It depends on the foodstuffs. When a food is packaged as 10g of carbs
3g of sugar then that could mean 7g of fibre however it can also mean 7g
of starch (which is a polymer of sugars). So take the worst case
scenario and don't worry too much. By avoiding the processed carbs
you'll be doing yourself a favour.

And make sure you get at least 30mins of moderate exercise (light sweat
and raised heart rate) a day otherwise the weight loss is much slower.

As far as Atkins is concerned you only need to worry about carbs that
you can digest. There are some carbs that you cannot digest and they
pass through the gut. They are important as they form the bulk of what
    is called dietary fibre.

The food label will only list as carbohydrate those that you can digest.
There are often 2 figures given. One for total carbs and the portion of
the total that is a particulat type of carb i.e. sugar. IIRC Atkins does
not distinguish between sugars and other digestible carbs so you only
need to be aware of the total figure.

The complex carbohydrates that you cannot digest are included in the fibre
figure. Ignore this figure when calcultating your daily allowance.

been taking the dieters advantage tabs in the starter pack and ensuring im
keeping up with my greens hoping that should be enough.
I can drink black coffee, however ive noted that it makes my stomach very
very active in a gurgly way.
Ok, my belt feels about the same tbh.
    Tell me about it.
Right, ok, im getting it again now, i can deduct the fibre grams from the
*total* carb count not from *only* those that are sugars.
I have to admit thats not been very practical this first week but am
determined to do this for this week and see how i get on.

Ok, but what about polyols which have a minimal impact, atkins says i can
remove them from the total carb count too. Of course i dont think ive seen a
food label yet that shows these seperatly :-/

    Interesting.

polyols - sugar replacements like sorbitol - shouldn't be included in the
    carbohydrate figure.

Just get used to the idea that you cannot subtract *anything* from that
carbohydrate figure, to salve your conscience, when you deviate from the
    Atkins paradigm.

Well, I've been doing it for 19 months and am down 5 stone......

If I drink a couple of pints, I'll put on maybe half a stone next morning.
IMO it's due to water and your specific metabolism, and how it handles
carbs. I could be wrong, but it seems to fit the observed fact.

As to feelign thinner, I didn't feel (or indeed get comments about looking)
thinner for about a year. I maybe lost an inch or two off my waist in that
time. Now I look in the mirror it is painfully obvious that a substantial
amount of the excess fat that I now carry is making a rearguard action
around my waist. I am now not buying any trousers until I hit my target
weight, although all my trousers now look baggy in the legs.
    Cook your own. YKIMS
7 net carbs in your example. Total carbs - fibre (and other non digestible
carbs if they are listed separately)

Just to confirm what others have said, you take the fibre grams from the
total carbs to get the effective carbs. There are exceptions re polyols
that have also been mentioned but the only thing I have seem listing them
are the expensive 'lo carb' snacks and choccys such as KitKat and Rolos.

Fibre shouldn't be an issue if you keep up the vegetables. I eat far more
fresh veg now than I have ever done. Also because of the net carb effect I
tend to search out the high fibre versions of stuff. e.g. there is a High
fibre wholemeal crackerbread that works out at ~6g per slice. Its nice
with lashings of best butter and an oversize wedge of V mature Stilton

I only weigh myself every week. Always at the same time of day and always
after the loo etc. I guess that is about as consistant that I can control.

yep they do indeed and ive had one or two as a treat. Particularly like the
mint wafer atkins one, the rolos are nice but are 3.5 g and the kit kats not
worth the money in my opinion.

<aside> I found some low carb chocolate bars in our local superdrug,
only )0.2g!!! Not only that but they were marked down from £1.09 each to
25p! I duly bought 20 for the future!
However, the other superdrug in bedford (near pigeon square) had them at
    full price.
