    £1200 I reckon...

Having twitched momentarily over it myself, I've found out this morning what
the cause is when they start to blow turbos like this, and can confirm
you're doing the right thing cutting your losses on it. ;-)

Oh yeah? I thought it was just because it was a shite Nissan engine
and a turbo that relies on air-cooling, plus dangerously long oil
change intervals (mind you, I changed the oil every 6k miles after the
first turbo went pop, and that didn't help, did it?).

There's also an issue with a sticking EGR valve, but that's relatively
    easy to sort.

What have you heard? According to the forums, some seem to manage
70-80k miles on a turbo, but they're in the minority. 25-50k miles is
more like it, which is certainly my experience.

    ....shite Renault engine, IIRC.
I rang my mechanic and asked him about them.

He said, in his experience of the Renault vans with basically the same
engine, the piston rings gum up, which in turn leads to compression getting
where it shouldn't do and air bubbles form in the oil... which then go
through the oil lines into the turbo, and well... momentary loss of
lubrication on something spinning that fast from time to time all adds up to
unnecessary wear and it prematurely expiring.

That's interesting. The thing is, the engine isn't actually a Renault
lump, although a lot of people think it is. I believe it's similar to
a Renault engine, but the fora do say it's all-Nissan. The six-speed
    box is Renault, mind.

As I think I said before, in my ignorance, I thought I was buying a
car with a French diesel engine and Japanese electrics. Instead, I got
a Japanese diesel engine and French electrics....

I spent about £600 sorting out a lot of dents and scrapes on the Multipla.
Looked lovely, good running order. Then I spent a load of money insuring it
    for the offspring to drive...

....into walls, sidecars, bollards, fences etc. Sigh.

  7. About a week before my old Voyager ate its auto box we had spent close
on £1000 sorting out bits on it (4 new tyres, full service, replacement
    petrol filler hatch etc).

We got £300 for it post-autolunch.

Sure this isn't linked to the turbo failure not long afterwards?

  11. And an amazing smear of blood across the screen. The impact scared the
shit out of my passenger at the time. It must have been like having
    Ginge appearing through your glass.

  13. Just agreed to do a BIN tomorrow with the really keen bidder, for £1300.
I'm happy with that. Well, not happy. Just resigned.

Anyone fancy x-posting this to Spacker? ;-)

Spacker does, at least, stay contained in his own threads.

    Erm, he doesn't.

Unless of course you reckon going into other people threads and then banging
on about the same tired old shit qualifies as that.
