Sodding loud at LHR. S'why it got phased out, iirc. There's still one on the
    fire dump I think.

    G-AWZK, IIRC.

The wings were shortened by about 12 feet each, and it was towed
around by trainee aircraft tug drivers. It was also used as a
thing for apprentices to work on while they were still newbies.

It wasn't on the fire dump when I left BA 6 years ago, but it
    could be now, I suppose.

How sad is that? I remembered the registration correctly. Looks
    like it's now at Manchester.

BAe used to have a 1-11 at Filton to keep their pilots current on
rear-engined kit. They were converting a load of VC-10s to tankers at the
    time.

Odd that Renault called their thing the same as a potty trainer, or was
the potty trainer inspired by the shit car.

You could well be right. It was just quicker than the train/bus/ferry,
and no more expensive when you start taking meals, somewhere to sleep
    maybe, etc.

  10. I've flown in the Vanguards, but that was certainly with BEA. I remember
being at the top of Mealasbhal with a party of Scouts when the 'Midday
Plane' flew past the mountain waaaay beneath us. Like a Dinky Toy, it
    was.

Pic was taken but I can't find it. However, I do have one of the Sprouts
at the summit, and another of the camp with the lower slopes in the
    background.

You'd need a charge certificate to take a party up that nowadays. I'll
just put the two pics up instead.
