  1. Isn't it a Diesel?

Heh, yeah, that's a good point. It's one of those horrible SDi jobbies
    with about 60bhp.

Why? I seem to be communicating with the worlds authority on all things
    motor related.

    Incidentally, google shows 1430 hits
A batch a few years ago. Hardly a common occurrence now, is it? I
suggest you google for 'Italian car electrics failure'

    Google shows 96,200 hits

    You lose.

You didn't pick up on the fact that I drive a diesel and don't have a
coil pack. I'd offer you a woosh but you'd only think it was another
    Fiat catching fire.

Didn't make the connection at the time, until Simes prompted it.[1]

Thing is, knowing the blunders you've made about stuff like this in the
past, it was entirely understandable for me to believe that you really
did think you had coil packs in the engine.

[1] Probably prompted you to look into it, too....

Given your past levels of numptyness on this subject, it's hard to tell,
    really.

So they all drive Diesels, and none have had a coil pack fail? Weird... I
bet its because they have had the spark plugs changed regularly...

    Blunder, singular.

Just go back and read some of the utter bollocks you've posted on
matters pertaining to both cars and bikes before you go slinging
accusations like that around. You're a clueless fuckwit when it comes to
anything mechanical, I think I've proven my worth on that score a
hundred times over. I wonder how many people here would bring a car or
bike round to your place for repairs? I seem to get asked by a few and
none have been unhappy with what they've had done.

How long have you owned that Golf, and how long is it since you
diagnosed a simple carb problem? Fixed it yet? Must be difficult getting
someone daft enough to do those simple repairs cheap for you in Wales.
You need a nice reliable company car you do.

    It isn't the carb.
Not even looked at it for over a year now.
I have 2 nice reliable cars, and both cost a hell of a lot less than the
company car tax hit on a Golf SDi. We have some of those in the
business, they're reserved for the kind of people who don't have proper
jobs to do, but need company transport.

Ah, so it wasn't a mistake, you meant we should all drive 64bhp cars with no
    coil packs, because they're better?

    Gotcha ;)

Mine costs me 50 quid a month all inclusive of fuel and everything. I
don't think you could buy and run any car for that, even doing the low
private mileage I do. I'm not a car person, so I really couldn't give a
**** what I drive to be perfectly honest.
I'm rather proud of my position within our company, which happens to be
the largest and easily the most respected company in this field. In 2
years our sales force took a new brand onto the UK market and made it
the number one seller. In the 5 months I've been on my area it's shown a
14% growth in sales, and that's over the winter of a particularly bad
year. That's what I call proper sales reps doing a proper job.

The reason we only have SDi's is because 2 years ago when they were
bought by a fledgling company, it freed up some cash to plough into
marketing and advertising. This year we get new and much higher spec
cars, probably Passats. Like I said in another thread, the car is a tool
of my trade. I don't see cars as status symbols, merely transport.

Mine may not be a company car, but my petrol allowance more than covers
the running costs of it. I'm happier doing it this way, as it means I
can pick what _I_ want to drive, not what the company tells me to drive.

    Are you sure?

The hit on a golf GT TDI (the 130 BHP one) is around £1200 a year in
real money.. I know I've got the figures sat in front of me , along with
a load of other quotes for company cars.

It's a shame the top of the range Mazda 6 TD Sport has such high
emissions, Nearly 20K's worth of car will cost the *horrific* sum of
    £131 a month in tax.

Perhaps I could go the Astra route again, 150BHP TDI @ £100 a month in
    tax...

With all of these I won't have to insure any of these cars, or pay for
servicing, or parts.. or even a hire car if it breaks down, that's got
to be the better part of £500 alone, I'd have thought...Oh, and there's
    no need for a deposit.

So, running your own car is a "hell of a lot" cheaper, yes?

So you're saying that they pay you a good enough fuel allowance to cover
initial purchase, insurance, fuel, servicing, tyres, depreciation and
    all the other costs incurred?
