  1. Nothing's appeared. Does that mean you're in or out (there are only two
    rooms left atm)?

How do you know there are only two rooms left?

You just said you wanted emails, not emails stating if people wanted
singles or doubles and who they'd be coming with or not?

Or have I missed a reply email from you?

    (BTW : single for me)

  5. Because I know how many rooms there are in the hotel, and I know who's
    replied, YTC.
There's no point in sending an email if you don't say whether you're
coming with someone (if you are), is there?
I've received nothing from you. You didn't send it to the spamtrap email
addie in this posting, did you?

What I mean is they'll have a certain number of singles and doubles, and
if you don't know who wants what, how can you tell we'll all fit in?
(or am I showing my age and all hotels now just stick single people in
    double rooms?)
I sent you an email the same day you made the initial post to UKRM, a
    while ago.

I've got the booking form now, will be sending you a cheque this
    weekend.

No idea which email address I used, sorry.
    Ta :)

I can't recall seeing singles in France either.

They are very common in Austria. Usually on the top floor and have a
sloping ceiling with a window in it. Rarely a balcony.

It was quite amusing on my recent bike trip to Austria. I'd offered to
share a room with a random person as a) this is cheaper and b) you don't
get put in a pokey room in the attic. The person that was meant to be
sharing with me pulled out of the trip. I still got put into the "shared"
accommodation, which turned out to be a family suite with 3 beds, a dining
area and some sofas. The sociopaths who had paid their single supplements
were put into the top floor rooms as described above.

I must be thinking more of B&B places, that one next the Black Horse
certainly has single rooms, and another B&B a few miles up the road does
too, and I can think of at least 5 other places I've stayed in.

All of them have converted an existing house(s)/pub and just used the
    rooms.

Not your typical Holiday Inn or Formule 1 mind.

What about all the little hotels in the cities? There's hundreds of them
in London and Paris, I can see the (slightly) bigger ones will just
convert the small rooms into storage rooms, but the smaller hotels would
want to keep as many rooms as possible.

Yes, yes, I know, I should move to a less pikey hotel :)

I've stayed in single rooms in St Ives, Amsterdam and somewhere else I
can't quite remember. There were probably others. They do exist, but
    only in older buildings.

Certainly not common, but I've seen one or two in older 'travelling
    salesman' type hotels.
Same in bbigger hotels in CH. I always assumed that they'd orignally
been intended as staff quarters, before management realised they could
sell them too, and banished the staff to multi-occupancy rooms in the
    basement.
Nice. But as a general rule one must be aware that a 'twin' room in
Austria often means simply having two mattresses on a single bed base,
with just a 3" bit of wood dividing them. Not everyone's cup of tea
    ;-)

and Germany ... when travelling with 2 mates from Slovenia. We were heading
for a final overnight stop in the Eiffel mountains and rocked up in Trier.
I'd been sharing a twin room with one of them during the trip. The lad
didn't seem too keen on what the hotel described as a twin bed. He was
happy enough to sling the mattress on the floor. We liked Trier and stayed
another night as we'd factored in a contingency day for the trip. He slept
    on the floor again.

  12. Just that. All their rooms are doubles and only five have twin beds.

    TOG,

I emailed you a week or so back. Did you receive it? Is there a double
    room/one bike place left?

    Regards

  15. I didn't get the email, no, and I've double checked. Did you just click
reply-to, because my Usenet email addie is spamtrapped.

And we're full now. I will ask the hotel if there are any extra rooms. I
know there are some in an annex 3-4km away.

Thanks, Colin. Yes, she is. I need to try and keep her away from the
bar, or at least stop her buying so much champagne, the exchange rate
    being what it is.
