Given the start of the thread, you could always fetch out some rag and
    wipe it clean.

Because it's a bodge - it smells of unfinished project.

Have it for the frame, brakes and suspension; the rest I'd be wary of.

    jsp says...
I'd spend my smoking time trying to come up with a way of holding the
seat down properly and tidying up the electrics. That'll put me back up
to 40 a day for the next 4 years, so I won't be bidding on it.

Did you say you couldn't make the BOSM?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll be there and it'll be available to try for
those who fancy a go on an old, raw, bike [1]. Usual rules.

    [1] I still can't believe I actually described a 750 Turbo as "boring".

The Guzzi in the the eBay advert has been worked upon, but IMHO it's
one of those occasions where the sum of the parts is definately less
than the whole, almost verging on the rebuild from a written off
wreck. Whereas sweller's Guzzi looks, for want of a better description
    [1], *right*.

[1] I'm on the outside of a bottle of Chilean Merlot and the cask
strength MacAllan is taking a bit of a battering.

  10. I think you're right
And lighter than you (or I).

  12. Must say no Guzzi that I and/or The Doctor have owned[1] has ever given
electrical gremlins. Closest one of mine ever got was when I overfilled
the gearbox and the breather spewed the excess over the coil
    connections, causing a misfire.

Mechanically - what you said, UJ couplings apart.

[1] Two Spadas and three V50s.

  13. Very perceptive. *Very* perceptive. You've articulated the warning that
was half-formed in the back of my mind.

  14. Yes. Used, a working hack, nicely personalised, classless (!) and
    timeless.

Looks like any old slightly scruffy Guzzi until you take a closer look.

Indeed, I wouldn't mind buying it myself, if I had the buying power at
the moment. Although that front light would have to be replaced.

Whilst I can appreciate the spec & the work that's gone into it, it
    doesn't really float my boat.

    One thing I don't understand - it's got a one-off custom built frame,
but it's still on the original 1977 registration - is that legal? I
thought the registration belonged with the frame on bikes - no idea why
    I thought that though.

  17. Platypus hit on a golden idea a few months back IIRC. His idea of a
Gothwing was a good one and his mega sound system playing Toccata with a
mix of Billy Idol playing "nice day for a black treffen" was a stroke of
    genius )

There's always something that makes me suspicious of any homebrew
vehicle when they're selling it as they can't afford to "keep it". If
that's the case then what have they scrimped on? What corners have
    they cut?

The big thing that makes me think are the statements like "I spent ten
grand, so I'm selling it for 500 quid". Sounds just like one of the
    adverts for a "modified" nova.
