To be an anorak it's usually a requirement to be right.

    "Oooh, we have a faller".

    <waves 2005 RBR landmark list at Dan>

    This year, there's:

    South Tynedale Railway
A London Tube train (in Wales) [1]
    Ryhope Pumping Engine museum.
    Alford Valley Railway.
    Brecon Mountain Railway

[1] or, there would have been, had the owner not moved it since I
    spotted it last May.

Looking again, Sweller's right, they're using Class 37s on the valleys
    lines.

Paul Corfield emerged from their own little world to say
    Nothing & no, I think.

I think he just got a buzz out of tripping the campometer.

I've been living in Cardiff for 2.5 years and go under/over two railway
lines to get to my dept. I've never seen one before as they are almost
always the DMUs that BCB refers to. It was quite surreal seeing something
so old on a commuter line.

It is, yes. I was a bit shocked when I found out, too.

I could hear them rumbling away on the line at the top of the hill, but
assumed they were freight trains, until I picked Katie up from the
    station one evening.

They do seem to bring out the anorak in people, though, as even Katie
knows the names, numbers and history of the locomotives they use on that
    line.

No, far from it. It was more an immodest response to Bear.

However the key point, for me, is the Porterbrook livery: AFAIK the
Deltic is the only EE loco in that colour (although the First Group have
a penchant for painting stuff pink and purple) and it has been known to
be rented out. Certainly it's popular as a spotter machine, particularly
over routes that aren't considered its usual stamping ground.

Or, it's a case of: "TOC too shortsighted to buy enough trains - Shock".

I intend to savour the landmarks where appropriate, this year, rather
    than just tick 'em 'orf.

I thought last year's rally went to the most distant, desolate,
wastelands of Scotland: I was wrong.

It's this year's wot does that.

I do have a bike more suited to this sort of thing now.
But I don't have the time to do all those - still a selection may well be in
    order.

Blue, pink and purple with graffiti strips pre-applied in 'artistic' fashion
if the 'mock' layout for the GWR is to believed.
