    Important Safety Recall RM2009/032

    VIN 221423 - 424192

Sprint ST 1050 and ST 1050 ABS

Rather worryingly worded letter this one. 'require the replacement of
the drag link assembly' 'urge you to contact your dealer immediately'.
    And so on.

If you've not got the letter, shout if you need more info.

Anyone know what the risk is? I was planning to make the most of the
last of the autumn weather before jetting off for 3 weeks, but if the
back end's going to fall off, I'd rather not.

    (responds gingerly..)

The old drag link didn't support the bolt that goes through it properly.
There is a spacer each side of the original billet drag link threaded on
    to the bolt.
The bolt can bend if the bike gets overloaded and a couple of Merkins
have had the drag link itself break..

I suspect this may be something to do with 'overloading'.
I've looked at mine and its still straight so I'm still riding it.
Booked in for a week Saturday to have the new forged 'wide to support
    your bolt' item fitted :)

I'm still waiting for the urgent letter to arrive.........

The rear shock on the sprint goes through a dirty great hole in the
swing arm. As the arm goes up and down you need the shock to sort of
stay in the middle of the hole. The drag link is like a little swing arm
below the proper swing arm which does that job.
The 'drop link' connects the shock to the swing arm and the drag link at
    the same time.
The 'drag' link gets 'dragged' behind the frame and the 'drop' link
'drops' down from the swing arm to the shock bottom connector...

    I think.

    See?

I think it's what us old timers call a dogbone.

Thank **** I'm not one of them then...
Never heard them called rocker arms but I had dogbones on the Nipponese
bike. I do have a thing called a drag link on the British army sports
car so maybe it's a British thing?

Yes me, mine snapped 10 weeks ago when i simply sat on it, Triumph replaced
    it
under warranty, and yes it now has to go back for another modified one next
    week.

I am getting to know the dealer very well just lately.

How tiresome. Just got my letter, 10 days after mothballing it for the
    winter[1]

Was that the drag link? I thought it was the main mount?
Where is it? Not going to be able to get mine done before November,
    might run up to Flitwick.

I've not received a letter yet. I'll check the VIN later and then I
suppose a call to Bulldog is in order.

Some like me called it the rear shocker mounting, the correct name is a
rear drag link so i'm told.

I use Hughendons in Milton Common which is on the old A40 from Oxford
to London, about 4 miles from the Thame turning.
