Hmm... You'd have to prove you've got somewhere to park it.

And that you don't mind being rogered by Lozzo on a twice-nightly basis.

  7. Right - sorry about the delay replying, been hiding.

The bloke you want is (IIRC) Called Tim, and he's an enchanter...

You can find him in the enchanted forest or ring him on 01536 201888,
but don't di it if you're in a hurry...

I bought a fuel pump off him for mine, 400 quid from Guy Salmon or 50
quid from Tim. He's incredibly knowledgable about old XJ's and can
    talk for England about them.

I noticed further down the thread you mention the fuel consumption and
LPG - LPG isn't good on those engines. It'll work OK, but really you
need a dual pressure Sequential Gas Injection system, and on a Jag of
that age and milage, it's really not worth it. I always felt the Jags
were quite frugal compared to my usual stable of Range Rovers.

The gas isn't really better for the engine - the oil stays cleaner
looking because you don't get the particulates of carbon dirtying the
oil that you get with petrol - but equally you don't get a spray of
nice cool petrol on the inlet valves... Save the money and buy big
boot spoilers and a loud stereo.

The brake booster error on it could easily be just the sensor - have
you tried reseting it to see if it goes away? IIRC it's a matter of
whipping the battery off overnight - watch out that you find the radio
code. Otherwise it could be one of the relays for braking system
playing up - that's what it was on mine - I kept getting ABS and other
brake errors until I took all the relays out, cleaned them, checked
them around a bit and reset the computer.

  8. Octane rating is 104, but the calorific value is around 80% that of
petrol - so to make the same or more power, you need to get more in.

I drove an LPG rangie a couple of years ago that was making 450bhp on
    gas. Went very nicely.

  9. The emulators merely stop the ECU going into limp-home mode when you
shut off the petrol. They just feed an injector like signal back to
the ECU when you're running on gas.

The Rangies run better on a proper SGI system, but will chug along
happily enough on an open loop demand valve system.

    Heh. Noted, ta.
I mentioned the fuel consumption in a "hey-ho" stylee. Others mentioned
LPG, I wouldn't personally fit it to this lump.
The battery was very. very flat when I collected it from Bear's Welsh
Holiday Cottage, so I suspect that's been taken care of. I shall have a
    fettling session with the relays.

I wouldn't rely on that - as long as there are a couple of voles
kicking around they seem to the keep the error codes stored.

I'd certainly start with the relays and connections - it's all made by
Joe Lucas for a start, so it's a bit of a no brainer. If that doesn't
fix it, Tim will know the solution.

  13. It's not the higher powers that do it, it's the continuous running at
power (like a long motorway drive) that burns out the valves.

    In
Those Jags have everything don't they? Electric windows, power steering,
    Voles.

They've probably built a small squirrel into the dashboard to make squeaks
    as well.

  15. The nuts don't fall off Jags - they are hidden by the squirrels.

I see, yes. Tricky problem that. A mate of mine had a LPG Jag in out in
Oz, it may have been the V12. Maybe that's why it never burned any
    valves out?

    450bhp? was it turbo'd?

So not needed on early sd1/rangies then.
There's one of those on ebay atm which has hit 585 quid and 35 bids so
    far.

I've acquired an open loop system to fit to the sd1 engine in my TVR. I'm
intending to stick a turbo on too, but I'm getting conflicting advice
about how to balance the diaphram pressure in the vapouriser.

  20. No. Owned by RPI (www.rpiv8.com), Heads skimmed, bigger valves,
hi-comp pistons, Inlet manifold job done, exhausts and overbored and
stroked to 5.3 litre (about as far as you can go without the pistons
being visible from outside). Sports suspension, brakes. Was a thing
    of beauty.
