  1. I saw a great thing on Discovery last night where they were going to
prove/disprove myths on driving and engines. They got themselves a
Cadillac and tried various things to kill it like sugar in the petrol,
bullets in the fuel tank, pennies in the carbs but the most interesting
thing was mothballs in the fuel - this did make it run much sweeter and
upped the octane rating. The thing that did finally destroy it though
was bleach in the oil ;)

Excellent. How about these CNG cars, now they sound dangerous to me.
Tallblokes Ovlov smelled weird like that, kinda nice though.

    <snip>

Now.. If I could only run the FZR250 on gas...

)) That'll do it. I'd imagine that filling the sump with Castrol R40
would have much the same end result.

  4. I saw that, the mothballs definitely did something positive.

Did the bleach dissolve (?) into the oil or would it be the same as
putting a litre of water in with the oil

Castrol R40 is why I need another 2 stroke bike. :)

I think the bleach must have done something to the oil maybe, I tried
soapy water in an engine, and it ran ok for 10 hard thrashed miles with
no apparent ill effects like knocks or bangs.

Although LPG has a high octane rating, it has a lower calorific value than
    petrol.
Well the early RV8 injected engines are ok on the bog flush sytem, but
later Rangies need emulators on the injectors to function as dual
    fuellers.
I wish my LPG powered VOLVO estate did.
    True enough :)

proper old-skool mothballs are mostly made of napthalene - it raises
the octane rating. In the long term, some of the leastly components
    may **** the engine.

You woouldn't have the smell for very long with a 2-stroke engine. R40
    isn't a 2-stroke oil.

    R30 on the other hand....

    I live and learn..

    I thought R30 was just a thinner version of R40. I ran R40 in several 2
stroke machines with no ill effects.

  13. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Nigel Eaton
55? Seems a bit small for a Jag tank. You sure there's not another one
under the seats, a la Glodwing?

Fwiw, the Scim has a 20gal (90L) tank; even the Tranny has an 80litre
    one.

You're lucky, it's not the stuff you should be using. 2-stroke oil is
generally an SAE30 oil with additives.

  18. I thought of buying some and skewering a couple on strings and
suspending them in my petrol. It did sound much better.

I think a temporary bit of black tape may find its way over the light
though. I'm anal about warning lights, and I keep catching it in my
    peripheral vision and twitching.
I'll keep looking. I may have a go at a little gentle plastic welding.
If you're a good boy I might let you have a go...
