Mine wouldn't play - am I doing something wrong?

  6. I didn't want to say anything but mine won't play, either.

I downloaded a whole bunch of video and audio codecs, a new mpg2 filter,
updated my video players and even had a whirl with the DIVX pro. The
last thing I tried, which was to copy the .mpg from the SVCD to HDD and
play it from there minus all the titles and stuff, but alas, no joy :-(

What did you use to encode it with? I'm not saying I'm a video wizz, but
there may be a filter I can install that I've neglected to try.

  7. Simsey Wimesy,

Bad form and all that, but there appears (BICBW) to be no video on the
    CD.

I ran it through GSpot and it reveals that there is no video information
or codecs, no audio, the file will run at "n.a" FPS and a quick poke of
the render button produced a "rendering failed" result.

    What to do, old chap?

    :)

  8. Have a look at this:

    http://msmvps.com/chrisl/articles/10729.aspx

I cancelled my last message about GSpot but a test on the CD with it
says there's no video or audio on it, basically.

It CBW of course and I'm going to try re-installing DirectX to see if
    that helps.

Got a software dvd player like PowerDVD? That should play it.
Playing mpg2s/svcds in Media Player is a whole world of pain.

  10. Yeah, I've got one that came with an old gfx card and the one that came
    with this PC.
    It should... :)
Did you see the posts I'd cancelled? You liddle tinker ;-)

I ran the SVCD through GSpot (incase you haven't seen this post for the
third time :) ) and it revealed that there's no video, audio or anything
that will run at any FPS on that CD. A quick poke of the render button
(like I've said before :)) also revealed a "rendering failed" result.

I have 39 video codecs and 44 audio codecs installed on here :-\

  11. Oh, and I only used media player as a last resort.

    I've tried, in this order:

Winamp, MSI DVD, WINDVD, BSplayer, DIVX player, Windows movie maker
    (Yikes!) and WMP.

Ah Ha! It works in Power DVD. I have a (OEM bundled) PowerDVD CD and
will see how big an image/the important bits turns out.

It also works in the girls cheapy DVD player but not in my Acoustic
Solutions one (obviously doesn't support VCD - arse).

    Try PowerDVD 4.0 [12.5 MB]
    ftp://sweller.dynalias.org/pub/PowerDVD/

It's on the end of my cable connection so it may not be that fast. HTH.

This sorted it, ta. Having watched half of it this morning, I've
decided that it really is a film that needs to be watched after
consuming vast quantities of alcohol. And my delicate stomach isn't up
    to that atm.
