Indeed. Since reading under the bedclothes when seven IIRC. Currently
cataract in one eye, implant in the other.
Ah. Go on then, where was it?

and they let you out on the roads?
sitting in the road, right up next to the pavement, about 3-4 bikes
into the bike bay. Right outside All Bar One.

    At a guess:
"in the motorcycle bay on Chicheley Street right opposite the London
    Eye, outside Bar One"

    *ding*

You could see it lying there from the other side of the road.

Oh, I pass all the eye tests fine (with heavy correction).
which is exactly where I looked. Some kind of associative malfunction
in the cerebral cortex do you reckon?

well, it does resemble a large stainless steel stapler, rather than
the smaller disklocks that are more common, but at the same time it
was very visible - as I mentioned in another post, I could see it from
the other side of the cross-roads, walking parallel to the bikebay.

I suppose it's possible that when you looked a bike with a wide rear
tyre might have been parked rearwards-to-the-pavement over the lock.

You're being uncharacteristically charitable (in violation of the NG
    charter surely?)

I didn't actually stop. I cruised past the bay at walking speed and
then did a U-turn. There were around 8 bikes there at the time, but I
still can't see how I could possibly have missed it *if* it was
    actually there at the time.

No, it was written off about a year ago. I was waiting for an
insurance claim to be sorted out following a collision when the local
scrotes nicked it and hid it in the middle of 2 square miles of woods
    opposite my house.

I'm now on a black CB500 with a full PowerBronze fairing doing the
daily commute into W1. I'm probably due an MIB# but really CBA.

Glad to see that your op didn't kill you, then.
