    *shrug*

For those of us with only two wheels to use at the moment, it doesn't
matter. You just get wet )

Was out on the bike a couple of weeks ago - in my new Hein Gericke
'showerproof' summer textile kit. Got very wet and very cold. That's
    enough for this year.

From next week onwards until December I have the makings of my very own
local version of the M25 during rush-hour practically outside my front
door with all the road-works and road-improvements going on at the same
    time.

I work 7 miles away, if I take the car I will need to leave 2 hours
before I am due in work at 8:30 and wonder if I will be home in time to
catch the end of the news at night, so the car is now off the road and
    sorned.

If I take the bike I can alleviate the time pressure, if I get wet I
don't care because at least I won't have sat for hours on end in the
car getting frustrated, because I really do detest having to sit for
    hours on end in traffic.

If you've got the right kit, then you don't really get wet at all. That,
or you just get used to being a bit soggy in the wet weather. :)

If you had the right kit and had actually bothered to get around to
re-proofing it, that would be a bonus )

Heh.. quite. That reminds me, must get some stuff to spray on my jacket,
but what do you spray textile jackets with?

Not the old good Nikwax that doesn't exist anymore, their new fangled
textile stuff. Chuck it in the washing machine iirc.

I got some stuff [1] from HG a short while ago, it's supposed to be
good *but* you need to wash the gear in it (either by hand or in the
machine). Hence me not actually getting around to doing the deed, as
it won't be dry before I need to wear the gear the following day.
Although, I've got a lot of organising to do for a charity BBQ we are
having on Saturday, and I'm contemplating taking the Friday off to tie
up any loose ends, so that'll be a good opportunity.

As for spray-on stuff, I've not had anything recommended to me but
someone else here might be able to point you in the right direction.

[1] And some other stuff for the boots, too. The stuff for the boots
works so I can only assume the stuff for the textiles will work too,
when I get around to it. Oh, the new waterproof gloves work a treat,
but they are getting a bit warm to wear now that we are approaching
something that claims to be summer.

I thought that was only for waxed jackets. I was thinking more of
fabseal, or whatever it's called for tents.

Nope. They have evolved. Wash it in the TechWash then spray it with DWR.

My gloves have holes in the fingers, so I've picked up some kevlar work
gloves as liners for the summer. Should delay me having to buy new
gloves until I really need them for the winter.

Post saved so I can google tomorrow. My jacket had gotten very grubby
and yucky, so I had to bung it in the washing machine see.
